Turbo Mach 5 is on a distinguished road

Catalyst 7.3 doesn't want to load the CCC...it hates me :(

Hello. (Yes this is my frist post here )

I just assembled a new system for myself. Got everything loaded but am running into a problem with the 7.3s.

Funny thing: I get everything installed, head to ati's website and boom: Catalyst 7.3. Ok, installed. Install went...ok...didn't notice anything unusual. Also its been a while since I used ATI (been using nVidia graphics). Restarted: BOOM. BSOD pertaining to my ACPI. Said the BIOS isn't complient. Oh kay...rebooted and it lets me in. Fine, everything works...except when I first loaded the CCC, I noticed it looked rather...plain. It wasn't loading the skins. I ignored it for now and went on.

System worked fine but still would BSOD sometimes on reboot. I finally got fed up and decided to uninstall and reinstall. I even used the last free version of Driver Cleaner Pro to remove the rest of the drivers and stuff (I had MOM errors when I tried a 2nd install). Now I installed for the 3rd time. Cannot start the Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

HELP! What do I need to do!! This is happening in Windows XP SP2 with all the latest updates on a Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 v1.1 Bios F7 with Corsair XMS Twin2X2048-6400C4. Currently the memory is at default JEDEC settings (I thought the BSODs were because I set the memory to what it should be: 4-4-4-12 at 2.1v although had to do 2.0v). Video card is the ASUS EAX1950Pro.

Hello and welcome to dh

You may want to try uninstalling the 7.3's and trying the 7.2's to see if the problem persists.. atm Windows Vista users with the 7.3's are being affected by a similare issue.

If you get the same thing with the 7.2's post back with the results and i'm sure some of us can give you further pointers.

I have tons of troubles with CCC on my rigs. Thank goodness I found out about this place:

http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=F...&dwn_cat_id=18

Users actually take the latest Catalyst drivers and integrate the ORIGINAL ATI CONTROL PANEL with them! That way you get the best of both worlds. I like the original control panel a lot, and the fact that I can use it instead of CCC makes me very happy indeed.

Right now, they have 7.2 with the CP. 7.3 should be coming shortly. It usually follows the core Catalyst release by a week or two.

Hope that works for you.

I'll see what these 7.2 will give me. If no blue screens then im set until 7.4 LOL. I also downloaded the modified 7.2s with the old ATI Control Panel just in case. Also figured out how to change skins...but it sitll bothers me that the CCC still spits out errors in the eventmanager. Oh well. Wish me luck! If it happens again i'll make a new topic.

Thanks guys. Probably will be cruising this forum more often.

I have no errors with the CP version, so I hope that works well for you with the 7.2 drivers.

Good luck, and please post a follow-up so we know if it worked.
