Uninstalling Catalyst 7.2 (My Experience)

A Word of advice when uninstalling Catalyst 7.2 for those looking to upgrade to Catalyst 7.3 when it arrives.

When uninstalling, you will reboot into windows and you will have an error message (w00t). this is because a poxy process has been left behind. To solve this download "Startupcpl" by mike lin and delete any ATI junk.

After this please download ccleaner from www.filehippo.com and run a registry clean. I found about 200 registry entries left behind (wtf).

For those who have registry mechanic run that aswell (only another 50 registry entries to be deleted.

For those who know whereabouts to look in your Windows System folder, just have a little browse in there for any ATI driver files or CCC files. I found about 20 left behind.

Do run DriverCleaner Pro aswell. ta ladies.

You are now officially screwed.

I'm not sure what you're on about. I just uninstalled the official CAT 7.2s w/ CCC just to try it. No errors, no leftovers, no problems at all.

I then commenced to install the NGO 1.7.2 drivers and rebooted and also had no problems at all.

Seems something may be amiss on your system.

I always at least try the official drivers each month to see what's been done with them. Several folks even really liked the improvement in the CCC this past update.

But, for my games, I choose either Omega's or NGO's.

Yes i use Omegadrivers too and i do like to test the official ATI driver set and was impressed with the performance of the CCC but it did seem to slow down at certain times. Oh well...I officially have one of the fastest 7200rpm hard-disks and a fresh installation of windows xp so hopefully i shouldnt encounter any more problems of the sort. As i said before I may just stick to the official ATI display driver & ATT, no CCC for me.

As for Omega boy himself he isn't going to have any drivers untill Catalyst 7.4 as he is working on vista and then going to be working on nvidia drivers.
