I´d love it if ATi actually released BETAs on their own site, before they are WHQL:ed.

What is strange about this driver is it is being downloaded from an Asian ASUS ftp site. I was going to try it but I was only getting 3kbs and the download is quite large weighing in at almost 100mb because it is every app and utility ATI ever released. Usually these are specific MFG hotfix drivers meant for a specific card. Now that Vista is out and there are so many new cards that have came out since the beta testing of Vista then we are going to see allot of these.

Rumor has it that there will be no R600 at all. Known is that what is called R600 will come in 65nm. Guess is that this is R650, with R600 canned.

It so slow, if you finish download it, can you upload it to another site. Such as yousendit or megaupload, cause i only get 5kb/s.
But is this the 'real' or it just a 'fake' from someone make it for fun? Cause I have trouble with my ATI Catalyst 7.2, I cannot change from basic view to advanced view. And I can't change the brightness, there is only one option, that I can change, which is the size. If anyone know how to fix it, then please reply.
-Thank in Advanced-

Thanks Chaos, I hadn't caught that.
Beta drivers, I'm playing with beta drivers! Man, it brings back such memories!
Found a link to hear somewhere else chatting about 'em and had to stop by and say "howdy".....
HOWDY!!!!!!

CM's Warning:
Playing with beta drivers can be dangerous to your health and your sanity. The catalyst general recommends you only indulge in official drivers and not sacrifice the stability of your system, for the sake of a cheap thrill

wednesday.
my warning about that beta stands. be careful, as it may be the version that wont let you install ccc and corrupt it totally.
In a weird way I do want to see people get burned by beta drivers, and learn not to play with untested software ;-) thats why we post every month, so you dont need to worry about drivers that companies release without testing... bad bad bad bad practice.

ATi 4 tEh W33n !
Seriously I can't wait for 7.3's, I hope it'll fix the issue that disables the quick-start menu if you reboot your system. It's my only complaint with 7.2's, other than that it's awesome as usual.

Thanks Terry, I remembered there was a reason I stopped playing with betas. Wait a tic, that wasn't the reason...it was 'cause you now put them out once a month so there ain't really a need or use for it. Still, it was fun to play with 'em a bit...got the old juices flowing in me. STALKER has got me obsessed in a way that games just haven't in a while. Wenesday, got it. Any fun hints on new CCC things?

oh thank gaud, catalyst 7.3 soon.... and 3 days before the big trade show....
that gives me at least a little while to fully cleanup and fully reinstall just about every conceiveable thing on my rigs with fully updated drivers and support. Gravy!

OH now C'mon Terry they are from ASUS what could possibly go wrong.....
No but seriuosly they are darn good drivers in my case, I absolutley DESPISE ASUS and they of course never disapoint me(ASUS Catalysts???, Nuff said)But these have made a huge diff on my rig with Test Drive Unlimited(the game is like crack one hit and I have been hooked)With the awful 7.2's, while better performers than the 7.1s were just annoying with the resets, memory leak(one day I will be able to play ArmA again )and well if you know anything about TDU it has serious performance bugs much like ArmA.
NOW these betas while still a bit on the "crusty" side and of course making my 2 beautiful SAPPHIRE X1900s into ASUS these have basically made the difference between running 20-30s with just 2xAA(in game) no HDR, Forced 16xAF(I dont know how you guys do it but when I force stuff with these 2 I get BETTER fps in alot of cases especially if I can get forced 8xAA which is my "level of choice" sadly forced AA is "broken" in TDU)
ANYWAYS with THESE Betas I can actually run those settings WITH HDR(before resulted in sub 20s which is slide show territory for me)
So now I am running 1600x1200 2xAA(I guess the rest is up to Eden/Atari)Forced 16xAF, HDR on, High Details and generally am seeing about a 30Avg for the most part where as the 7.2s I would say was a 25avg WITHOUT HDR On.
May be up all night tonight, like a kid a Chrimbo waiting for the Officials as these "ASUS'ized" make me nauseous when I have to look at my poor Ruby's renamed ASUS

So dramatic,
Personally I like exploring beta drivers and software. I even like it better when a piece of hardware is hacked and I can use unofficial drivers and firmware. This is what owning a PC is all about, for me. It would be nice if more manufacturers let the end user in on testing so that more than a couple of specific widespread bugs get fixed. If beta testing was used every month, or whatever the release cycle is for that company, then maybe there wouldn't be more items listed in the known bugs list than there are on the fixed list. Maybe then we could have the drivers released every two or three months and if there needs to be a hotfix then fix it and release it as just that.
I am not just talking about just ATI/AMD, this is happening with all drivers and software.
Keep up the good work and try to post more about whats going on and not just when people are talking about the evil beta drivers.

I have to say Terry, there are times (not necessarily with the Catalyst drivers) that beta software functions better than the final release.
I mean heck I'm a beta junkie.
There's not a point in time when I'm not testing at least half a dozen MS beta programs as well as 2-3 symantec programs.
Half the fun of computers (in my opinion) is finding out what you can screw up and how to fix it

I tested the "7.3" from Asus here on Vista x32 and in the bright side it runs very well Second Life (no other ATI official works with it).. But, and always we have a but, F.E.A.R have some big problems with this beta... sometimes the screen goes blank, other just have some creep strips on the screen! Sure, I´m waiting for the final ATI 7.3 official...

When software is leaked -
It might create pressure to get software out - Driving producers/writers/programmers insane
And the software is not as good as it could have been.
Still - Any company who wishes harm - on their own products - on there own customers - might not, in my opinion, deserve those customers - kidding or not.
