NGO ATI Optimized Driver v1.7.2
Download/Source: NGOHQ
Thanks to REGENERATION for the submission.
_______________
The NGO ATI Optimized Driver is a modified version of the ATI Catalyst driver. The main purpose is to satisfy the users with better performance, image quality and compatibility. The NGO ATI Optimized Driver can enhance your experience in games, multimedia and general usage. This project is especially suited for enthusiasts and gamers that want to have the best gaming experience.
This driver includes ATI Control Panel and ATI Tray Tools by Ray Adams (Optional). We’ve preferred to include Control Panel over Catalyst Control Center due to the lower memory usage and flexibility. You can use ATI Tray Tools to take full control and to adjust advanced features while the Control Panel will give you basic control options. With ATI Tray Tools you can create game profiles and assign specific settings for each application.

Well, as far as I can tell, their added Crossfire support either doesn't work with my card, or something in there is missing, cuz it ain't showing up. Guess I'm installing the CCC again.

It's inside ATI Tray Tools.

Hey, Regen.
That's what I remember from the DNA drivers, but for some reason it's not showing up as it did with that one. I also tried cleaning out everything, that is ATI driver related, and ATT related, both file wise and registry wise. Still no luck though.
Edit: Here's what I mean.
When running the DNA drivers:
(I never did figure out why there was no Direct 3D or OpenGL listing.. one reason why I don't use these drivers)
When running the new NGO drivers:
I've even tried installing the latest ATI Tray Tools (beta 1.3.6.1009) with no luck.

You're right. "opt_hide_cf=0' is missing in our atitray.ini, We will fix it asap (Already done), Just add it to yours, and it will work again.
Thanks for the headsup!

Well, I'm gonna say it, this rocks! Not only does ATT properly see my Crossfire set (thanks for that fix, Regen), as well as properly seeing the type of connection it really is, which is a Dongle/Bridge Connection (where for some reason the DNA version saw it as a Software one, and wouldn't kick in), it actually works! Click "Enable Crossfire", and away we go!
Say goodbye to the 'ol CCC Crossfire fans, cuz it looks like you don't need it anymore.
Oh, btw, I figured out why I was missing the the Direct3D/OpenGL listings in ATT. For some reason the "Enable merged 3D mode" was enabled under the Advanced tweaks section for the CCC Mode Switch. Kinda weird since I didn't enable that.

I noticed one bug. Turning on any of the options in SMARTGART results in SLOW windows GUI and the same OpenGL compressed textures problem as the 7.2 DNA-drivers beta. I always turn all SG options on and it has worked with all drivers (including standard 7.2) so far. I noticed that the ATI Smart service is not installed with these NGO 7.2 - I think that has something to do with testing and aplying changed SMARTGART settings.
Well, I'm going back to standard 7.2 Catalyst for now...

This might be related, but remember take note of the changelog for these drivers:
Changes
* Based on ATI Catalyst 7.2
* Updated ATI Tray Tools to v1.3.6.1007 with Crossfire support
* Added support for Radeon X1950XT
* Added support for Radeon X1950GT
* Added support for Radeon X1550
* Added support for Radeon X1200
* Added support for Radeon Xpress (RS600/RS690/RS482M)
* Added experimental support for Radeon Mobility (9500-X1800)
* Added experimental support for Radeon IGP
* Improved Driver Installation Method
* Improved Installer/Uninstaller
* Fixed several Installation/Uninstallation related bugs
* Fixed Incorrect Clocks bug
* Fixed Wide-screen resolutions bug (Don’t forget to use monitor drivers)
* Smaller Installation file (15MB)
* Removed SmartGart AGP Page
That last one "might" have something to do with the issues you're having with it.

Thanks Tipstaff. I don't know how could I miss that
I wonder what was the reason to remove it. After the installation all the SG options are off which really kills performance (at least on my system).

Because most of the users are using PCI Express.

OK, I get it. But why exactly was it removed, would it increase the download size (in this case I would remove the Control Panel instead ) or is it incompatible with some PCIe stuff?

That's a very good question. Just because 'most people are using PCIe' doesn't mean everyone is doing so. There are still some very nice performing AGP cards out there and new ones coming out still.
AGP isn't buried yet.

Exactly. I'm waiting for some R600 based AGP card to replace my X1600Pro

Good drivers, shame about the AGP deal tho. Still a huge percentage using those boards. Might want to rethink your game plan.

Aren't they just saying that the smartgart page of the driver CP was removed?
If that is the case then everything can be changed with ATT.

Unfortunately it's not that easy - the ATI Smart service is removed too.
I wrote a few posts earlier what happens when I try to change something in Smartgart using ATT: NGO ATI Optimized Driver v1.7.2

That service has never been needed.
I am going to try these now and see what my results are. The only thing I have ever used the smartgart tab for is to turn off fastwrites. I see no reason why the service would be needed for ATT to successfully turn off fastwrites. Believe me when I say that I have no clue when it comes to driver development or modding.
If there is a problem turning off fastwrites after the drivers are installed then maybe NGO can come up with a way to turn off fastwrites while the drivers are installing, like Omega's set.
Either way, I will post back some results after I test these out.

After the installation all the options (including FastWrites) in Smartgart are off and can't be turned on, resulting in performace loss - that's the problem I have with these drivers...
