CS/halflife exit to menu workaround
For those who are of interest, there is a way around the lockups in CS/halflife with the 3.2 cats. While Your probibly better off simply going back to the cat 3.1's as there is very little boost to opengl this method will work as well.
SOFTWARE
None needed but tis ugly... On my personal machine its almost unplayable as my screen is shrunk to one half and the colors are all funked up.
D3D
No workaround needed the D3D code isint really broken, cept D3D runs like crap.
openGL
Join a game as normal, and simply manuver around with the console if you need to switch servers. So write the IP's down of your favorite servers before you join. Join as normal, and play. When you want to quit use ctrl+alt+delete and shut halflife down in the panel. That is the only way you can prevent your machine from locking. You cannot do this while a server is loading so make sure its responding before you try to join it and your machine will lock if it cannot connect after 4 retry's. Syntax:
- Connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:YYYYY (where X is the IP numbers and Y is the port, the port does not need to be included if its 27015)
- reconnect (used for just what it says. Useful if you get dissconnected or something goes wrong. It wont work if your booted by a server, you have to use connect command again!)
There are a few more useful commands but these are the main two. The method sounds a little harsh shutting it down but really this is the easiest way with cat 3.2.
