Missing smartgart and flickering monitor problem

Hi, new here.

Just installed the latest Omega drivers for my X1900 XT 256, and I have a few problems.

Now, I'm not even sure what Smartgart does, but I noticed that clicking on Advanced Smartgart Options does nothing, the cursor just blinks, and nothing happens. I searched a bit, and found that the Smargart service needs to be running. Went to services, but no Smartgart service there. Only ATI Smart (is that it?), which won't start. When I try, it says it started but then stopped.

The other problem I actually noticed when I started writing this thread. Depending on over which part of the screen I move my mouse, the screen flickers madly (Dell 1901FP 19" TFT).

FYI, this is a fresh Win XP Pro SP2 install, with all Windows Updates, and latest Intel Chipset drivers. I never installed original ATI drivers, Omega were the first drivers to be installed. I also installed that WDM update for VIVO cards (as I was getting an Unrecognised Device in Device Manager before I installed that).

I'd be very grateful if anyone's got any ideas.

Thanks.

You dont get smartgart on PCI-E systems only AGP ones, since its NOT needed on PCI-E, the service is still installed on all systems however since theres no chipset testing during the install process. The CCC still expects the service to be there however or you get a warning message.

Starting the service in the services control panel wont get the service to start up for the reasons explained above.

Not sure about your screen flickering issue, you havent explained any troubleshooting you have done on that issue. Would probably be a good idea to try the alternate DVI option in or the Reduce DVI frequency option both located in the CCC digital panel properties.

Spyre, many thanks for your reply.

So, the fact that when i try and start the advanced smartgart options, and nothing happens, is perfectly normal?

Regarding my other issue, to be honest, I literally became aware of it as I was typing up that first post, and haven't really done any troubleshooting on it. It was very strange. The entire screen would flicker if I was going with the mouse cursor over some of the formatting buttons for the post (such as bold, italics, etc.).

I'm at work now, but I'll check when I get home, and see if it's still happening, and try your suggestions.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to reply.

Vlad.
