Having problems with Clone Mode/Theater mode and CCC

Hi, I'm having a problem with a couple of things, hopefully someone will be able to help me

I've got a GeCube Radeon x1300 512mb AGP x8 card, which for the most part works fine.

The problem I'm having is that with normal Catalyst 6.9 drivers and the CCC, when I use Clone mode and Theater mode for videos on my television, for some reason when it goes full screen it always puts the videos into Overscan mode, although in the CCC it shows overscan is off, so to resize back to normal everytime I have to put it onto overscan, then take it off again.

So then I've tried the Omega drivers, the same problem doesnt happen, the videos are sized perfectly on my TV now.

The issue I'm having is that if I have the TV enabled in the ATI panel, whenever
I run a game (CS:Source for example), I usually have my resolution set to 1280x1024 on my main monitor. But after using Omega drivers, it wont let me go above 1024x768. Then when I go to the normal display properties, my max resolution it lets me choose is 1024x768 and I have to disable the TV to let me get back to normal.

I've tried everything I can think of, but I can only get it all working at the correct resolution with my TV off, or if I put my TV as a secondary monitor instead of Cloned, but I really don't like having it as a 2nd monitor, its just there for my movies

I've uninstalled Omega completely, reinstalled, tried different versions, and all do the same thing. When I go back to the normal ATI drivers, it works again, but I still have the Overscan video problem.

If someone has seen this before (either problem) and knows of anything I can do to sort it, I would be most grateful

Greetings! And Welcome to Driverheaven!

Right click on the Windows Desktop and then select Properties at the bottom of the popup screen.

Now, select Settings and then Advanced.

Select the Monitor tab and then make sure the following box is unchecked:

Hey Dyre, thanks for the reply and welcome.

Unfortunately, that was the first thing I tried, it works to start with, videos are fine etc, but whenever I load a fullscreen game up the maximum resolution it gives me is 1024x768, regardless of settings, unless my tv is turned off.

What I see might be the problem is that with official ATI Catalyst drivers, in display properties, the drop down menu for monitors shows "xxx Monitor on Radeon x1300 series" etc, and the secondary shows off, even though TV is in clone mode and working.

With Omega, it shows up in the same list as "Multiple Monitors on Radeon x1300 Series".

From what I can see, my full screen games are taken the maximum resolution of my TV (1024x768), and ignoring my TFT, and I've made sure my monitor is the primary and TV is clone, done it the other way round, still cant get the bugger working correctly.

As I said in the first post, I'd prefer for the problem with Omega to be fixed just because the drivers are better, but if someone knows a fix to the problem when I'm using the official Catalyst ones and get the Overscan videos, I could settle with that

I need you to clarify something: When you say that the official drivers put your TV OUT into OVERSCAN...are you sure it's not creating a VIRTUAL DESKTOP resolution?

One thing that is necessary: You cannot run your Windows Desktop at 1280x1024 and -- at the same time -- expect the TV OUT to be running at 1024x768. It won't work that way. The limit of TV OUT is 1024x768. So, to get that without getting a virtual desktop on the TV, you have to have your main screen set to the same.

Just need to make sure we're on the same page.

With the way its set up, my main TFT is running 1280x1024, ofcourse the tv has a maximum resolution of 1024x768, but its using the Pan function in CCC, so when i move my mouse about on my main screen, it focuses that part of the screen on the TV.

When playing videos though this isn't an issue, its always full screen as the TV gets adjusted to the resolution of the video currently being played.

So just to confirm, it doesnt go into overscan when just "idle" and looking at my desktop, but it does when I play videos.

Just to test though I have had my TFT running 1024x768, and the same occurs. And as I've said, the problem doesn't exist with Omega drivers, but I have the other issue with not getting max resolution available in games with TV running clone mode.

Hope that helps

This used to be an issue I had, too. But, what I posted earlier with the screenshot corrected that problem for me.

Are you attempting to use the Omegadrivers with the ATI CCC, or without? I hope it's without. I'm not keen on trying to have more than one control app installed as they tend to cancel out one another.

With the ATT that comes with Omegadrivers, I run my Desktop at 1280x1024, run my games at any chosen resolution and can exit the game and regain my chosen Desktop Res without any further input on my part.

Soooo...that points to a conflict on your system or a setting that's not sticking right.

That fact is, I'm using the latest Omega's right now and using ATT to make adjustments.

Try this: Go back to the Display Properties, Settings, Advanced. Then click on the Adapter. Then click on List all Modes button.

See if you can select your 1280x1024x32 there. I have mine at that res and 85 Hz Refresh.

Tell me if these modes are grayed out or able to be selected.

At the moment I do have it running as you originally suggested, and I am using only Omega drivers, I don't have CCC installed.

Just did more checking, from what I can actually see, it appears only Steam games have the problem with max resolution being 1024x768, I've checked a couple more games and they seem to work fine.

So, any solution to that one?

I'll have to look into this one after work tonight.

UPDATE:

OK, I can verify your findings re: Steam games. After checking several options -- both in the Display Control Panel AND in ATT -- I started up Half Life 2 and could not get any res higher than 1024x768 unless I turned off the TV Clone mode.

This hasn't been a problem for me since I do a lot of recording of my games and have to use 1024x768 to do so.

But, if I turn off the TV Clone mode, I can select any res I want.

This may be something that can be tweaked in the [game].ini file for whichever game you're wanting to play.
