GTA 3 Sync Over Range error
I just installed the new omega drivers based on CAT 3.1. It is my frst time using these drivers and quite honestly I don't think I'll ever do it again because the first game I try, Grand Theft Auto 3, I get a Over Sync Range error and my monitor turns off...what's going on???

Specification about my problem: I uninstalled the ATI control panel, tried to uninstall CAT drivers too but got some error message can't remember what it was. Run the Omega exe, choose to install evertyhing, choose 100hz because my desktop is 1024x768 and I can't go higher than 100hz. Reboot, try Grand Theft Auto 3. I run the game in 800x600, I hear the intro sound but my screen says sync out of range. I also tried reinstalling Omega drivers using the 75hz and 85hz options, no difference. |

well I have to say the out of sync thing is something that makes no sense to me, especially if you say your monitor can handle 100hz at 1024x768, it should be able to handle it at 800x600. ive never had that issue myself.
you say you are even getting the out of sync error if you install the drivers at 75hz? |

I just noticed something: my refresh rate is set at 100hz, but if I press a button on my screen I can see that vertical sync is set at 85hz, is that normal. I installed the monitor drivers.

ok something sounds a little wrong here for sure. have you DDC information in advanced displays on or off? are you sure your monitor can handle 100hz?
what is your monitor btw? any inf files installed for it? |

TTX 8785, with inf installed from TTX.
yeah it can handle it, it's in the manual, it's a good screen. I'll try again with 85hz option in the setup... I did not do anything with DDC because when I went in control panel/displays I was kinda lost, dont really know what to do with it...but when I uncheck DDC Information, I can see some options like 1600x1200, maximum refresh 85hz, my monitor cant handle that and I don't wanna break it, should I uncheck DDC Information anyway??? Well actually in DDC Information it says that my screen DOES support 85hz in 1600x1200.

well DDC tells the driver what maximum settings your monitor can handle (res and refresh), of course ive seen in the past that on some rigs, if people dont have the correct inf file installed or they dont have one at all it can cause all sorts of havoc with a system. Even a few people ive helped ---- their inf doesnt correctly work even when installed, but its rare this would happen.
If you have to go into that panel and manually set the maximum res and refresh rate make sure its correct. of course getting the manual settings correct is something thats very important, so id be 100% sure of the settings before messing with it. if you can post a Dx log it might help. |

You know there are times when you think you have done everything right and if something doesnt work correctly it's not your fault. Well that's what I thought...
I reinstalled the Omega driver VERY SLOWLY, chose 85hz option, and I just confirmed that too many times the problem is not the program, the problem is the person who install it... Thank you for your help Zardon and I'm really sorry I completely wasted your time...

Sorry Skyline that I didn't answered your problems, I was at work and I only have some time to do this during the night...
The first problem is that if your monitor supports a max refresh of 1600x1200@85Hz, then you should use the 75 or 85Hz option, not the maximum one. (besides, that is the forced refresh rate for special resolutions ONLY, not the normal ones) Another problem there was the INI file for GTA3, that damn game stores the refresh rate info in the INI or CFG file (I really don't know since I don't have that game) and when new drivers are installed the refresh rate changes, then the game uses the refresh trate info it had when it was first used. Just erase the configuration file and start the game. Third, yes, you should disable DDC, that way you can use the max potential of your monitor and not be limited by what Windows wants to do. BTW, I'm really glad you could sort the problem out by yourself, next time just E-Mail me personally or just post the problem in the official thread, since that is the one I watch the most. |
