Flicker effect on t42p / Firegl t2 128

I have a strange problem on my newly aquired T42p. If I try to update the drivers to anything newer than the installed defaults, I will get a lack of acceleration and / or a 'flicker' effect from my LCD, resembling a CRT at 60hz. The IBM installed default drivers have no flicker problem, and provide plenty of acceleration (but are dated at the end of 2004).

The really strange thing is, I get the same flicker effect in linux with new drivers

I've tried all the methods I can think of for uninstalling the IBM drivers, but, they don't seem to be the problem. I also note, however, that the ATI monitor controls report the panel as running at 50hz, but I have no way to adjust this.

My t42p is a 14" model, with a resolution of 1400x1050.

Anyone have any ideas? (This has stumped me)

Hi Wil and welcome to Driverheaven.

I'm not sure whats up, but my first reaction would be to contact the Laptop manufacturer. and press them for a newer driver. This appears to be a Manufacturer specific problem.

Sorry i cant be more help.

EDIT: below is a link that might help.

Good Luck
