NGO Drivers -- A Little Question: Should I Be Concerned?

In all honesty, I'm very, VERY impressed with how these NGO 6.4 drivers are performing. I also like that I can still use Ray Adam's ATT with these drivers.

BUT, there is one thing that bothers me: As I load my system into Windows, just after the Windows XP Logo screen...with the animated loading bar....and just BEFORE the Windows WELCOME screen, I get a very, very disturbing corrupted screen. It's the kind of screen that normally happens when the card has overheated or something similar. There is NOTHING identifiable on the screen.

At first I thought it was just a one-time event. However, it happens EVERY TIME I reboot my system.

So, again, is this a normal occurence with these drivers?

Well I'm using NGO 6.3 and have yet to see that...but, like yourself, this is my first time using NGO and I'm happy with them as well.

No problems here with NGO 6.4 +ATT and same card as you.

I had that problem before with another ati card and the corrupt screen but the card itself was rock solid aside from that...I tried it on another comp and the corruption wasn't there at startup you should try the same. I bet a format would cure it too.

I don't reboot very often, so, it's not a big, big deal.

I'm also not quite ready for a new format and hope that isn't what it takes to fix it.

Does it happen only when you soft reboot, when you hard reboot, or both?

I rarely ever completely shutdown...so, it's a simple Restart.

well Dyre, I'm not sure how much input about the NGO drivers you will find here, pop over to their site and post something for Regeneration to look into since he does their driver tweaking, he would be the dude to ask

I've gone back to omega 6.3 drivers, basically coz i was getting random crashes and reboots with the ngo's.
Everything is fine now. But don't get me wrong, there's probabbly nothing wrong with those drivers coz at the same time i uninstalled the ngo drivers i also decided to remove the starforce drivers that were secretly imbedded within my system.

Other than for this little concern, these drivers are performing great! So, if NGO continues to put out like this, I'll be using them more often than not. Might not be a bad idea for me to register over there to provide some feedback.

EDIT: Well, I'm trying to get the Registration page to load. That site is soooooooo sloooooooowwwwwww. I remember the download taking close to 30 minutes on my broadband connection.

That's odd. I'm having no troubles getting things from their site (good speed I mean). Right now I'm at work, and the connection here to my ISP is bad to begin with.

I wonder if there is a problem with the way your connection being routed to their ISP by yours?

So far, all other pages are loading fine. I can even open and browse while waiting for this one to come up. It just refuses to finish where I can begin entering information to register.

It could be a routing problem, I guess.....or a lot of activity right now.

I've been trying the NGO drivers for a fews days, and I had a lot trouble installing it..
I had Omegadrivers before, and I tried Driver Cleaner pro and other software to remove them but in the end I got this result (check what is underlined):

Does this mean I didn't installed them correctly? Omegadrivers are great (though hard to clean), but with NGO I get more stable gameply in Oblivion..

I know this is a little offtopic, sorry

EDIT: I had the latest Omegadrivers, and installed th last NGO ATI set.

I've never had a problem uninstalling the Omegadrivers. I use his own Uninstaller program and it takes care of things pretty well. The only real problem was right after he started using Ray Adam's ATT. I did have a few problems getting that app to quit causing an error on boot up of the system. Something about raphook.dll, I think.

Since then, after uninstalling the drivers, I just delete the foldes in the Program Files directory and then run a Registry Cleaner. CCleaner has been very good!

According to your screenshot, it looks like Omega's are still the resident drivers.

Based on the two screen shots you have provided I would say you definetly have a corrupt install. Uninstall both drivers, run driver cleaner, then reinstall the NGO drivers.

Wow that is kind of a scary screen shot Dyre, LOL

I've got the NGO 6.4s installed now and don't have any problems as of yet.

Dyre, it is possible that the Ultra Edition install is not working as it should be. Remember that the Ultra Edition (according to NGO) use the memory in a different, more effect way. Given that, have you tried reinstalling the drivers using the Standard installation?

No, I haven't tried the standard version. Everything else is working wonders.

So, I think what I'll do first is try to reinstall the drivers to make sure everything is installed right.

I'm not hankering to do a reformat at this time.

Neither would I.

Actually, I'm very reluctant to mess around with my machine. As I've mentioned the 6.3s are running rock solid so far, and I really don't want to screw with it.

Oh, something else I wanted to mention. Have you taken a look at the PCI latency timings? If I remember correctly, for some stupid reason that after I installed the drivers the PCI latency timings were way, way too low. It was set for 32 when it should be set to more like 64. I'm wondering if that might effect things.

<sigh> Ah hell... screw it. Let me try the 6.4s. I can always go back...

Well, I just did a full uninstall, rebooted into Safemode and then let Windows do its thing. After dealing with the VGA mode drivers, I booted back into normal Windows and installed the NGO drivers again.

End result: Exactly the same thing....same screen. BUT, it did NOT appear when I booted into Safemode after installing the drivers. Sooooo...it leads me to believe it's something in these drivers as they begin to load.

Now....a new question: Are you sure that PCI LATENCY -- not timings -- should be set to 64? If it's TIMINGS we're talking about, that should be 66 MHz for the AGP BUS. Where do you come up with 64 for this setting? I've also noticed that mine defaults to 32. It's done that everytime I've used ATT and was going through the settings.

However, since PCI Timing itself is 33, then a number closer to that should be right, correct?

EDIT: Well, I've done a little educating of myself re: PCI Latency. It seems that some devices actually default to a really ridiculously high latency number. Per a few sites, it seems that 32, 64, and even 80 are good figures to work with.
