Avivo or No Avivo??

I have downloaded the latest CAT 6.3 and the AVIVO converter. I've run both installations and am using the CAT 6.3 drivers now.

However, AVIVO is nowhere to be found! Period!

I've gone to the HELP menu; gone to the ATI Support Site online; followed the instructions and AVIVO options do not show up under any circumstances.

I also ran into discrepancies with the instructions to Enable CLONE mode with the new CCC.

I think someone needs to go through this HELP file and update it to match what actual steps need to be followed in order to get things consistent.

EDIT: If there are minimum system requirements, WHY aren't these listed next to the download site for AVIVO? Should be in BOLD letters somewhere.

EDIT Some More: Oh, Look What I Finally Found......

ATI, I think you need to make this minimum requirement MORE OBVIOUS. It should be in RED LETTERS within the INFORMATION BOX next to the FILE DOWNLOAD. Come on, be on the up and up!

the way i found it though and might just work for you aswell is open catylist center
and select the basic tab, then select yes, then select the next tab *bottom left corner*

then from the drop down box select avivo video converter, then select next and the video converter will open up

X800XL does not support AVIVO, as you pointed out.

And it's not their fault; it's your fault for not finding it out first. Besides, it was made pretty clear that only X1k series can utlize AVIVO.

tech.Me, I down loaded it an would have tried to install it if I hadn't seen this post first, and I'm far from being an experienced user. I just installed my first AIW card, and I followed the AIW path from the ATI main page, and since it was there, I just naturally assumed that I needed it.

The 'notice' that it's for X1xxx cards only is VERY WELL HIDDEN, and I guarantee you, that there will be a LOT of people doing the same as Dyre did.

That 'note' SHOULD be right next to the down load link, and easy to see.

Well don't feel bad Dyre.

I have a x1900xtx, and I can't use it either because I have XP x64.

I've been an ATi user for YEARS, fellas. I have several ATi cards right now and am using an AIW 9600 in my second computer. I've given away more ATi cards than I care to remember. I gave them to people simply because I had upgraded and felt someone could benefit from the cards who couldn't afford newer ones.

So, I've been around the block a few times.

If it took me some extra effort to find the hardware requirements for AVIVO, I can guarantee that new users to ATi products will be led to assume that they can use this app even if their hardware doesn't support it. (Like a few who have replied to my initial post.)

ATi is better than this. The hardware requirements need to be made OBVIOUS anywhere AVIVO is advertised. As it stands right now, it's like being sucker punched and no one likes that.

This is and was common knowedge ever since the transcoder was 1st publicly
previewed it only work on X1k Cards . Also not its not becouse it "can't work"
on older cards It doesn't work as well killing the whole point of haveing a wikkid
GPU accelerated fast encoder. If it not much faster or even slower then old
unaccelerated encdeing.... So It's X1K users only...

for example in folding in GPU tests found ATI's X1K (1800xt) near 2.5 X faster
then a 3.0 Ghz P4 and nvidias 7800 much slower then a 3.0 ghz p4. That and
the App had been not yet made to take advantage of ATI new Architecture yet!!!!

Neon, you know me better than this.

When you say it's 'common knowledge' just who's common knowledge are you referring to? There are a LOT of newcomers to ATi products who don't have ANY knowledge at all of what their cards are capable of doing. That's one reason why these forums get filled up with all kinds of questions.

I think my point is well received by those who haven't been around 'since the beginning' and that the fact that AVIVO is ONLY available for certain cards SHOULD BE better documented and made MORE OBVIOUS where AVIVO has been described and made availabe.

Not every one knows as much as others do.

BTW, I already HAVE a version that does work on my X800 XL.

MindlessOath is on a distinguished road

this encoder is still software only... no hardware support from what i can see. so all it needs is a hack like the first version.

and to tell ya the truth.... there are much better quality encoders out there. this is not worth anyones time if they want quality. speed is annother option tho, if you want speed go for it.

i thought this was going to release with 6.4 with the added support of better video decoding too.

ati get crackalaking on the actuall x1xx hardware support, and make this a better QUALITY encoder, you can give options for speed and quality, but dont lack in one just because you want to be faster.

On x64 just download and install from the ATI MultiMediaCenter (32Bit) the Encoder and you should get the Avivo Video Converter available in the Basic-View of the ControlCenter, available here:
