A64 32 Bit driver
Folks
I have a minor, but irritating problem. I have the following for a system.
ABIT AV8 (VIA KT-800 Pro chipset) 939 pin
A64 3500 Winchester (One of the first out)
2 X 512 Corsair PC3200 XL
ATI X800 Pro
Sesonic 460 PSU
That covers the basics
I am using Windows XP Home with SP2 and all the updates after SP2.
I have been using this system just short of one year.
Problem: ... I had the old 2003 32 bit A64 driver installed. a new one (2005) is available and I thought I would upgrade.....
The install program starts and then quits saying the old driver must be removed. I do the Device Manager routine and uninstall the old A64 driver. Reboot, try installing again. Same story I now rollback the driver and so it now has a generic MS driver. Still the same message on install atempt. I use Windows explorer and search for any A64 Driver data and delete it. I go to the trash bin and empty it just in case. Still no joy.
To my knowlege there is no old AMD driver in my system (But I know little of Windows or software in general)
Can anyone walk me thru upgrading the driver?
I am not planning on buying Win XP 64 at this time and Vista is still 1 to 2 years away. I am not a Linux fan but I do have several distros. I also forgot to mention the 'Upgrade driver option' When they ask for a specific location, I point to the desktop or 'my documents' (I put a second copy of the AMD Install program there, in a folder) it won't allow me to access or 'drill down' to the actual source. The program then ends in cancel or if I try to force it manually it reboots and reverts to the generic MS driver. When I again try the install, it again says I have to Uninstall the old driver. If you try to Uninstall the generic driver it just returns on startup.
Thanks I was hoping I had missed an obvious step.
