Upgrading to Windows xp Pro x64 - is it worth it?
as the title say... do you think its worth upgrading to windows xp x64? since im about to get a new amd athlon 64bit 3700+ cpu?? or is it better to just stick with regular win xp for now? is there lots of compatibility issues????? and since lots of programs still dont support 64bit (anti viruses, virtual drives, camera drivers, etc) is it really worth the upgrade??
even thought ati, nvidia, and creative all have their drivers sorted out for x64!
thanks

Hey Ev!L-aLphA,
I really don't think XP x64 is ready for prime time. If you just want to use your computer for daily use and have it able to just work with nearly everything easily - stick with XP Pro (32bit).
You'll really have to determine though, just how much you want to experiment and explore the new environment and the rather limited benefits of the latest 64bit capable software.
There are others here who can tell you much more about its limitations and benefits though...

windows x64 has an emulation allowing it to run 32 bit apps so it could run 32 bit apps fine, all of them i dont think so

Nah, not worth using yet.
I'm really tempted, but from what I see, all I'll get is bragging rights to say my computer is 64 bits, and I'll have increased hassles setting up drivers and programs.

I'd say no. Why? The one utility you can't live without nowadays is in short supply on XP64 ... anti-virus programs. Right now the biggest name that supports it is Eset with NOD32. NAV, McAfee ... they have corporate support but nothing for the consumer. I believe Avast supports 64 bits as well. So right now the big boys are out of the picture.
Who knows about Trojan scanners ... I use BOClean in addition to NOD32 so I would want a Trojan scanner as well before I move to 64.

Nothing. In fact, I use NOD32 myself. I'm just saying that some people want to deal only with the big boys (Symantec, McAfee) and should know going in there's no solution from them.
Also, as I said, I still don't know of any 64 bit Trojan scanners and I would want that as well.
