pretty much, you will need completely new hardware. A pentium 3 1.2Ghz or an AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz is all outdated hardware. You won't be able to increase your computer's speed by itself, you will need to get all new hardware. Motherboard, processor, and memory are the three basic yet critical components that makes up a computer.
well....this is the wrong forum to have posted this question, so a mod will move this thread when one comes across it

Depends actually on the hardware you have in your current rig. Can you post some specs of your current machine so we can get a better idea? You may just be able to swap the processor for another one of the same Socket type. Some of them are kinda tough to get lately as they are old tech, but they can be found.

We need specs (cpu, motherboard model, ram type, etc), but it does sound like you're using pretty old stuff.

true, but doing this will be more of a bandaid to what he has now comparatively to what is available out right now.

Well I would say it depends on what kind/how much of an upgrade he is trying to do and his current setup.

he needs to give us specs though. once he does, we can help him out and tell him what he can or cannot do with his rig.
if he has a p3 rig, then it's pretty much tapped out. The fastest p3 ever produced i believe was a 1.4Ghz Tualitan p3. But if he has a socket A rig, then i'm pretty sure the highest CPU he can put in his system would be probably an xp1900~xp2200 depending on what his MoBo supports.

go to google and search "CPU-Z download". it's a small app (less than 1Mb, and once you open it, it will tell you what kind of processor you have, the amount of ram, type of ram, etc. and you can then tell us in full detail what kind of specs your rig has .
