Legal matters: I got my Win2000 through MSDNAA (or whatever the abbrevation is) program, which means I got the CD image and I was to find my serial when I log on to my MSDNAA account, only I didn't read that so I started the installation before doing so. And when I was half way done it was too late to go online so I had to use another. But now I'd like to put in my own before I get into trouble.
I googled it and I only found a keygen that puts his own keys but doesn't have the option to let me write mine. I also downloaded a Microsoft tool called sysprep but it actually makes image of my system so that it can be cloned on another machine, and then, on that other machine, asks for a new key. I realise that this is a sensitive matter and you only have my word that I'm not up to no good, but I only have you people left, so please help.

It only reads the serials of currently installed programs and OS, it won't help me change it. But it'll probably come in handy one of these days, so thanx. Anyway I'm kind of giving up on this, I'll do it right the next time.

The only 2 ways to change your serial number is of course formatting and making a fresh install with your new serial number OR if you can get a (and this is a very slim chance) microsoft tech rep to validate your new serial number then they will give you a new PID, you can enter your new PID into your system which I doubt unlikly due to the fact that they'll tell you to do a fresh install anyways. If you can get a rep from microsoft to validate your new one then I'll show you how to alter you PID code and you'll have what you want. Good luck heh

You dont need to format, just reinstall on your current operating system and download a trial of a fancy defragmentor such as o&o defrag and do a boottime defragment, that should make it better than a new format.

Hey Ivan, I've found the program that is hopefully going to make your life a whole lot easier with windows 2000. Here it is "WinKeyFinder" , hope this helps and post back please because I'm sure other people will want to use it.. if it does what it's suppose to.
Cheers

I know how to do it on XP, but I don't know if it works on 2000 or not. All you have to do is alter your oobe_timer and it will ask you to re-enter your registration key and go through all that registration gobblety gook again
