Sad newbie building a 64-bit comp.. needs help..

so this is the first computer ive ever built, and im hoping to run it on x64... but the main problem is i dunno if my hardware will work... ive checked most of my hardware, and i either have or can get the drivers for them...

x64 Compatible:
Pentium 4 630 Prescott Em64T
Intel Socket T 915G mobo
Geforce 6600GT - i checked nvidias site and they have a 64-bit driver
Creative Audigy2 ZS - creatives site says they ahve a driver too

Not sure:
Corsair ValueSelect 1gb 240pin DDR2
Seagate Barracuda 250gb SATA - ive heard SATAs arent doing so hot on x64
Altec Lansing VS3151 - i dont need drivers for my speakers do i? just the soundcard?
HP Lightscribe DVD Writer IDE - im not sure whether the drives will work, ive heard they dont
Sony CD Writer IDE - same as above
Keyboard - havent gotten one yet, im going wireless, and it better work

so there are the basics of my system, i thought the ram and IDE optical drives would work, but im not sure.. about the SATA i have no clue.. heard u needed to reinstall SATA drivers?

man this is a lot harder than i thought

If you havent purchased the proc or mobo yet I'd go with a Athlon 64 S939 Variant, if you did that Processor and mobo should be fine. Remember XP 64 isn't out yet, and companies arent going to release their solid drivers till it ships.

Everything looks good, its just a matter of waiting for XP64 to hit retail and then the driver issues will/should be taken care of.

If your primary function for it is playing (modern) games then yes you should.
Check out the puter I put together for myself, not saying it's the best money/performance but it's close as a lot of reading of reviews went into it:

Some help composing a new system...

For instance, I don't think DDR2 price difference is worth the small perfomance gain. And I wouldn't install a 64-bit OS just yet since support is still too limited. Hope it helps you...

System Specs

UHHHH...SaberZ...Windows X64 HAS been released. However it will not be in a full 'Retail' release. It's OEM only.

rolleyes XP64 Hardware

MB: A8N SLI Premium
AMD 64X2 4800
2G DDR
2-SATA 250GB Raid
Sony DRU-810A
Generic CD
Wacom 9x14
GE Force 7800 SLI x2
ViewSonic VP2030b x 3

I give the hardware and software high marks with the following exceptions - drivers remain a problem. Presently using flash sticks (2GB) to transfer data instead of CD's or DVD's which cannot be read or written. Moving data across systems to do DVD/CD writing with a 32-bit machine. Some software apps remain non-functional. The Sony DRU-810A won't read and the hardware manager shows the driver as incorrect. - even with the purported 32-bit emulator. Wacom works perfectly and the graphics software functions very well except slow to load from generic CD.

Sony says check with Microsoft. Did that without finding much other than complaints about the XP64 software and nasty responses. Ho-hum. Again, most everything is good with the exception of a few driver glitches.

All positive search suggestions appreciated.
