You mean the links in the E-mails don't work at all? Or they don't open up a new IE window?
Have you tried- Tools- internet options - advanced - uncheck "reuse windows for launching shortcuts"? I know since I upgraded to SP2, launching links from e-mails won't open up in a "new" IE window.. unless I shut the first one down. I also noticed since SP2 OE acts different when shutting it down by clicking "exit" - it used to start back up and open up to that identity without making you type in the password to that account... It uses to only make you re-enter the password if you clicked "exit and log off identity" Maybe there is a setting somewhere in windows to change that behavior, and how OE launches links from e-mails.. because I can't find any settings in OE that affect those behaviors.. EDIT- nope- unchecking the "reuse windows...." doesn't work. If that is what your problem is, I noticed it too.. I have just been shutting down the IE window OE is using, and then click the link and it opens a new one. Its a pain in the ass. Last edited by BWX; Jun 8, 2005 at 02:34 PM. |

I noticed the same thing since SP2- I haven't really looked too hard for a solution to get it back to the way it was before, but I planned on trying to find one eventually. I tried everything I could think of in the OE and IE settings, but it always acts the same now.. It's kind of ridiculous. I imagine it is some sort of "security" feature, but it is nothing but a huge inconvenience. |

Been using sp2 right from the official release date...... never had a problem up until this last week.
Tried reset to default and nothing has changed. |

When I went home to my parents house to install SP2 (upgrade from SP1, nit fresh install)- the same exact thing happened there. With the OE logon and the "pain in the ass" behavior of OE when opening links. Can you remember if you got any windows updates? Maybe one of them makes this happen. I have been scanning through the settings in OE and IE and nothing I see seems to point to changing the way OE opens links in IE. I have looked before too. Time to start Googling I guess. Maybe we can did something up on this. It wouyld be nice to get it to act the way it used to. |

MIG-31, this is for the problem on the initial post.
use IE as default browser and then follow these below steps. and then try clicking on links in email message again and see... Start ->Run... type inetcpl.cpl and Enter. the command opens 'Internet Properties', at 'Programs' tab click "Reset Web Settings" and then click Yes then OK. then, type these following command lines in the Run box, hit Enter at after each command, and wait until you see a confirmation dialog before entering next ones... regsvr32 actxprxy.dll regsvr32 shdocvw.dll regsvr32 urlmon.dll then reboot your PC. after that, open 'Folder Options' and click on 'File Types' tab, then scroll down to "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol", and then click Advanced, then click Edit... make sure that you have these following info under each box... Action: open Application used to perform action: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome Use DDE is checked DDE Message: "%1",,-1,0,,,, Application: IExplore DDE Application Not Running: leave this box blank. Well MIG, I don't know if you want to open the links in a "new" IE window or not.. but I did..
Hold "shift" when clicking on link in the email message and it will open a new window instead of opening in the same IE window. I never had to do that before, but I found out that is the way to do it.

i believe this problem has been around since before XP service pack 2. it is about the Windows registry that somehow becomes corrupted or missing.
re-register the .Dlls are actually for resetting the registry. the 'Reset Web Settings' in GUI is also indirectly make changes to the registry. anyway, here are some more solutions for others who might have this same problem...
