Windows 2003 strange problem

I just setup win 2003 ent edition on my machine. It works great and I managed to enable all the neccessary stuff. However I have a strange problem with some applications. I tried playing doom 3 on it and when I start a new game, it starts loading and then screen goes blank. The hard disk activity led is constantly blinking, then after a long time the game starts. I had the same problem with prime95. When I start the test, it just hangs and then after a long time the test starts, I think it is something to do with hardware but which one I dont know.

Have you tried changing the performance options?
Go to Control Panel->System, Advanced tab, Performance options and make sure that "Processor scheduling" and "Memory usage" are both set to "Programs"

Also, make sure that hardware acceleration is enabled. Right click on your desktop, go to Properties->settings, Advanced, Troubleshoot tab and make sure that the "Hardware acceleration" slider is set to "Full"

System Specs

Just to clarify something: you said you did all the necessary stuff, but was that to get it working as a workstation? At any rate, since W2K3 Server doesn't come with Direct X 9.0c I would suggest installing it, or reinstalling it if you have done so.

Neowin did a good Windows Server 2003 to a Workstation Guide which you can fine HERE . Check some of their suggestions versus what you have done to see if there is anything that you might have missed.
