We're moving office/stores to new premises and since I'm IT I've been tasked with the IT, telephony, cctv, security and office layouts (Whoopee! ).

Does anyone know of a good incremental backup software that'll handle multiple clients over the network on a timed basis (out of hours)? Hopefully one that'll not cost an absolute fortune.

Also is there any gain out of having the server spool all the network print jobs?

hmmm..... now i've been asked to build a few networks, with a few dedicated render rigs. So far, i've only been asked to put on paper what would be needed. And i've yet to figure out what or how to do backups.

Orginally my plan was to simply build each rig with a raid aray, setting 2 hardrives with Mirror mode, i figured this would do plenty good enough for a client machine backup protection.

Then setup the dedicated servers that the client machine could selectively backup thier data they wish to make sure to keep safe to a drive. I thought this would keep the amount of hardrive space storage down to a minimum, keep things generally quite clean with say, every month going through it and weeding some of the crap out manually.

Then again, i'm not dealling with probably hundreds of clients ..... i think i'm dealing with tops, 15 clients with 4 Massive dedicated servers, 3 of which would be render "pigs"

Can't you have a "backup rig" that just has windows and a TON of harddrive space, and have the machines back themselves up to it nightly?, and then delete backups every other day, so you always have 2 backups available per machine.

Acronis is also one of the best - you can't go wrong with it!

erm.... sometimes clients make a mistake of deleteing something, then a month later, finding out they need it again...

veritas will do everyhting you want very nicely. from what i have read they are tops in this field.
while not even in the same arena as what you are doing i use stomps veritas designed backup prog on my 2 comp network at home. could not be happier.
