What is a "slipstream install"?
Just as the title states. I have seen it in previous posts and I am curious as to what it is, the benefits, etc..

you should also do repair installs with cds slipstreamed to the same SP level. for example, if you were going to repair a system with winxp sp2, then you should run a repair with a slipstreamed xp sp2 cd. This is true for Win2k also.
here's a good SS utility:

Are these only good, if you only have an installation CD? All I have is a recovery CD and SP2 CD. And if they don't work with a recovery CD, then is there a way to use it to copy the I386 folder and make it work somehow that way? I'm hoping to find a way to do a fresh install apart from my recovery CD which by the way has all the drivers on it listed on a seperate CD, but a majority of them I have upgraded myself and saved the upgrade install files to CD as well. I also have two numbers poduct id and key. The id is listed in the registry, but he key is only listed underneath the laptop. I've never been asked to register at MS whilst updating and have used the recovery cd twice to start afresh which is kinda buggy until I upgrade to SP2(random lockups and such for some reason)

I'm not sure about this,
but Nlite is what I used to create slipstreamed cds, as well as strip out the garbage I didn't want.
I beleive you may be able to create a slipstream cd using this, because it will ask you for the location of your installation files, then copy the contents to your hard drive.
If you can find that on your recovery cd, then theoratically this should work.

I have an I386 folder with Winnt32, I assume is for launching the setup for XP. Would that be all that is needed as far as XP install?
edit: Well I checked it out and if it doesn't extract it from the recovery cd it won't work(it's an image file I think) cause I don't appear to have half of the stuff on the hard drive it requires for the job.
edit2: I posted too soon, the revovery cd has the files needed to do the job.

Did you use Nlite for this?
Just curious as i've never tried with a recovery cd.
And it went through ok?
the I386 folder is your main content, however i'm not 100% if theres anything outside that folder normally required. I don't beleive so.
the I386 folder is like the win98 folder on a windows 98 cd, it contains what is needed for installation, if i'm not mistaken.

No, I haven't tried it yet. I was just stating that the files needed, according to the nlite forum were on the recovery cd, excluding the I386 folder which is on the hardrive. But on further checking I'm still missing a few other files.
