BMG_Cya=- is on a distinguished road

Need definitive answer please...

I have read at Microsoft, and through Microsoft Auto update, that as long as the system reads my O/S, and tells me SP2 should be installed, then everything is fine as wine.

I have also heard in here and elsewhere, that you need to un-install SP1 or SP1a BEFORE you install SP2.

Everywhere, people have a different answer.

ALSO...
I recently reformatted, and the Windows Update Center would not let me install SP2 until I installed SP1 and a few other "Critical Updates".

I'm lost...I'm sick of hearing contradictory sh*t.

What is the proper procedure for installing SP2 on my Win XP Home?

Below is a pic of what I have installed now. Seems a mix of SP1a and SP2 Hotfixes.

PC never ran better.

Please don't tell me to search Microsoft Knowledge base, as I always get re-directed to something that is totally irrelevant.
Just like most people do when they first click on MS Help.

its ok for you to install sp2 over sp1, in fact, if im not mistaken, that is what you are supposed to do. check www.windowsupdates.com for anything that sp2 may have missed and your good to go.

sp2 contain all the updates from sp1a.......so basically if you install windows sp2 via windows update you will only download the required updates needed.meaning a smaller download time.

Do I need Service Pack 1 installed before applying Service Pack 2?

No, Service Pack 2 includes most updates released and tested on the date it was released. Updates released after Service Pack 2 will need to be applied after running the Service Pack 2 update. You should access Windows Update immediately after applying Service Pack 2 to get critical updates issued after Service Pack 2's release.

Try installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 this way:
1. Do not use Express Installation.
You can order the Service Pack 2 CD.
Or:
Download the Network Installation from here: (be sure to select the correct language)
Download Windows XP Service Pack
DSL takes about 20 minutes, if you do not have high speed access, get a friend to D/L SP2 for you.
Then burn it to a CD and keep for the future and sharing with friends.

read the rest from the below.
