Home network issues
After doing a clean install of SP2 on both my machine and my sister's machine and adding both computers to the workgroup, I am unable to connect to either computer.
I've disabled the firewall because that was an issue that I had the first time I did a network, but that didn't help. I get a user/pass dialog box when I try to access either of the computers. When I turn on the Guest account, I no longer reciecve the user/pass dialog box, but I simply get an error message saying that I do no have permission rights.
I was using simple file sharing and even tried with simple file sharing off.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I should try now?

In a workgroup situation in order to gain full access between the machines without getting the user/pass box just add the same user accounts (with the same password) to both machines; i.e. you have an account on your sisters machine and she has an account on yours, in addition to your normal accounts. Had you done that already? Was it working before SP2?
Once you have access you can then start playing with permissions and local security policies to restrict what you can do on each others machines.

Sorry it took so long for me to answer back.
Anyway, neither account have passwords on them, but I tried creating each account on the other computer, but no luck with that either.
Previous to SP2, the network was working and the only issue I ever ran into was the firewall being enabled on the computer. With this situation I have no idea what's going on.

this is only 2 PCs connecting...
turn off Windows Firewall, tune off Use simple file sharing, disable Guest accout,
then set this connection up manually, then you can turn on the firewall later..
set/use same password for the real Administrator on both PCs
in the LAN properties on both PCs you should atleast have the following..
Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
within the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties..
for both PCs select Use the following IP address:
also in "Advanced" TCP/IP Settings on both PCs -> select WINS tab and use "Default" option for "NetBIOS setting"
PC No.1 - IP address: / Subnet mask: = 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0
PC No.2 - IP address: / Subnet mask: = 192.168.0.2 / 255.255.255.0
you can also select Use the following DNS server address, then enter 192.168.0.1 as Preferred DNS server, if you also use MS Internet sharing..
test the connection... go to Shared Documents folder on both PCs, setup Share this folder, use the default Permissions for Everyone to Read only.
(all the Permissions settings can be changed at later time)
when you get the User/Password dialog box, enter Administrator and the password that you created, and see...
then if you can see the other PC shared folders, then try creating a new user acct on both PC and see...
