Pissed SP2...urge to kill rising!!!

Problems I have had since the final official version of SP2.
(BTW, was running the "beta" versions of SP2 before this and ran great)

Official SP2 probs:

I had this thing back down to a reasonable number of running
processes yesterday, (19...not as good as pre-sp2 (15) but
still decent.)

Now today these processes are back running.

================================================== =======

I have run my subscribed to Norton2003 and comes up clean.

I have run 6 different kinds of anti-spyware progs from
Adaware to spysweeper to S&D...etc. etc. and they come up clean.

I have run two anti-trojan programs...again...CLEAN.

I have Windows SP2 built in firewalls and crap turned off.

I have other programs to take care of that stuff.

================================================== =======

This install of WinXP Home has actually run for 9 months without
a problem. Longest ever without a crash!!!

I hate re-formatting as I don't know how and/or can't get to work
any of those "Ghosting programs"...or settings savers.

Takes a looooooooooooong time to get things back how I like it.

Games...apps run good to great.

================================================== =====

In other words,I'm not going to fu**ing reformat because of this
SP2 BS.

================================================== ========

What are some of these procesess in the shot?
Like what is alg.exe? Never seen that before.

I usually am not quick to condemn Microsoft, but this SP2 is
Bull**it man...

Little help?

alg.exe Process Information

Have you tried typing "alg.exe" in Google? It's amazing what you can find.

Still doesn't answer my questions about why these other processes
and why they keep re-starting despite being turned off then
disabled.

I'm sorry, thought this was a f***ing Windows O/S forum.
My bad...

I thought if you read that the alg.exe process info was related to MS' security initiative, it would explain it, but I guess not.

A lot of the new services or old services being brought up are security related ones. alg.exe is a security related process. So you'll have to kill off a lot of other security stuff before you can completely shut them down.

Are you using the "Black Viper" method of turning off processes?

Black Viper recommends using services.msc, right? I used that and the processes I've turned off have stayed off. One of them being "Security Center". I'm currently waiting on his finding concerning SP2 related services. He should be updating it soon.. but I can't stand visiting his site with his mug shot.

this has been tested on a PC with the LAN is disabled in the Network Connections,
i disable the LAN when i don't use it, so this may very.., and depends on your connection.

the service "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" is set to Disabled,
this means you do not use the Windows Firewall nor the MS ICS,
but using other FW product that has been recognized by the Security Center,
the Security Center service can also be set to start Manual.
then the ALG service (Application Layer Gateway Service) will not start when you set it to start Manual.

the Locator.exe shows on your Task Manager is the service "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator"
it won't start on my machine with the Manual startup type is set. check it out.
the rest of the processes are look okay.

Jeez...forgot about this post. Man was I pi$$ed that day.
Nothing personal No_Style.

When it comes to Windows stuff, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I never go to those Windows O/S sites where a bunch of seemingly bored brainless, but yet somehow spiritually connected to
all things Microsoft hang out and discuss Bulletin number (insert insanely long string of numbers and mind-numbingly boring string of letters and endless numbers...)

Well, obviously been there once to know what it's like.

Just want the O/S to do the very minimum, let the stuff I enjoy run and then stay the hell outta the way.

Still having problems with some programs...POST SP2 un-intstall.

Anyway...just wanted to acknowledge you guys and your time.
