What is this file?
What is this file and others of similar names in my WINDOWS folder. The files all look similar to this "$NtServicePackUninstall$" or "$NtUninstallKB825119$" or something like those. Just curious to see if they are something that can bee deleted or not as they are taking up quite a lot of space. I assume it has to do with uninstalling the SP2 or other programs. Just wondering, any input is appreciated.

if you do delete it, you won't be able to rollback that update should you want to uninstall it

ahhaha...messing with updates is NEVER a good idea...unless they're the ones that can be removed through add/remove programs...i successfully fudged the file system on my entire HDD (including all partitions) by deleting just one of those haha

honestly due to size on images for work i tend to delete them for the older updates. What i do is delete the ones up to the newest then install the newest. This will save on avarage pre sp2 about 200 mb of update space. And when making images for work that can mean 1 extra cd. I can not remember a time when i needed to unistall an update that was a really old one.
But as always do not delete anything in the windows directory you are not confortable with nor know what it does

you can move those SP's uninstall file and info to somewhere else if the OS partition is having limit in space,
but to do this properly you will have to modify two registry keys so you can still remove the SP if needed....
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KBxxxxxx -->> UninstallCommand
and
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uni nstall\Windows XP Service Pack -->> UninstallString
