On my mother's computer, whenever you open a Internet Shortcut (.url) on the desktop or wherever,
IE opens it in Restore mode (not maximized, as a smaller window).

Is there any way to make IE open in Maximized mode always?

The only stuff I've found so far, is people saying to manually resize the non-maximized IE to take up the whole screen.
That's not what I'm looking for, need real maximized mode.

Without using any 3rd party software...

1) view any web page with IE,
R-click on any link within the page you're viewing and select "Open in New Window",
after the new IE window loaded, keep this window open and close the 1st IE window,
then use your mouse to drag the IE window to fill the screen..
do not click on the IE maximize box. then close this IE window.
the next IE window should now open in a maximized window.

2) Or, start IE, hold down <Ctrl+Alt+Shift> while dragging its window to fill the screen,
do not release the keys, then close the IE window using the Close box and release the keys.

If you like to have the IE open in a "Maximized" mode you'll have to config it
from one of an IE's Shortcut Properties, and always open IE from the Shortcut...
but the next open windows will not be Maximized.


that's all the things we can do afaik... none of the method will keep every IE windows in maximized mode.
and you should expecte its behavior changes since some web sites will change it on your next re-visit.
IE was written this way, it's by designed.

Those didn't work, they just did what I don't want.
They make the window come up as a non-maximized window that takes up the whole screen,
not a Real maximized window.

I was hoping some registry key would do the trick.

Yeah, IE opens maximized if you open it directly.
But, if you open a link on the desktop, or if IE is opened by something else (like Windows Update launcher, or her ISP dialer), it won't open maximized.

Well, I will see what that IE Maximizer software is like then.

registry hacks to max all windows is only good for other windows (explorer).. not the IE.

Here are a couple more options to try (yes I know this is an old thread...).
1. Try creating a windows shortcut like this: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" http://www.google.com Then right-click the shortcut and choose to open maximized.
2. Create a Windows shortcut like this: cmd /c start /MAX iexplore http://www.google.com (note that you may have to fill in the full path to cmd.exe or iexplore.exe on some PCs). For option 2, not sure how to get rid of the black window that flashes and then disappears, though.

you coukd use NirCMD.exe (freeware command-line tool at nirsoft.net/) to hide the CMD window interface.

one way to do this, is to create a .cmd script that will contain a line like... start "" /MAX iexplore.exe www.google.com
and then run the command-line tool directly or from a shortcut... NirCMD exec hide "/openIEmax.cmd"

I have tried to reproduce this with shortcuts from different locations including the desktop. Whenever the shortcut opens the browser minimized I just manually maximize it and close the browser and then when I reopen it the default is maximized. This has always worked for me for as long as I can remember.
