AMD Processor Software Update?
My windows XP windows update says I should install:
Advanced Micro Devices processor software update released on August 29 2001.
I have never come across this before and I'm curious what the heck this does? haha

I never install drivers from Windows Update. I have had nothing but problems when doing that.

I read about it some time ago when I was betatesting a game and there were troubles, but it didn't help anyway. Probably included in the service pack, wich you should install if you have the bandwidth to download it. I agree with avoiding drivers coming from Windows Update, except for special cases like CPU driver updates because one can oftenly not find them any other way than straight from Microsoft.

Odd. On the other hand Windows Update can get confused at times. Perhaps it will simply disappear from the list again.

that the windows cpu support driver updateing it can give a small performace boost and allow the os to better utillze the cpu. I'd do the update but that one seems old

Hmmm....I got the same thing the other day. I installed it without question. The only "drivers" I refuse to install from MS are the Sound Blaster and Radeon drivers (bad experiences with those wises one up real quick), I usually let it go ahead and install the LAN and CPU updates though. Never had a problem with that so far.
As for any performance boost with the CPU update.....I saw no real difference in any respect. PC still boots up, still runs OK, is still stable and shuts down fine. Maybe there's a slight difference, but I don't see it.
Updates like this CPU update I see as, "whatever", and just put 'em in figuring that MS probably knows more about that stuff than I do as far as what's needed where the CPU is concerned. If it would have messed up the system, I'd just reformat, no biggie.
