Windows ME startup disk includes some new files that are not present on the Windows 98 startup disk.
On the Windows Me startup disk, the following new files are present...
- Checksr.bat : This file is responsible for invoking Ebdundo.exe to check for the presence of a failed System Restore operation on the computer. If a failure has occurred, Checksr.bat provides the prompt to undo that operation, and invokes Ebdundo.exe again to perform that task.
- Ebdundo.exe : This is the executable file that can detect the presence of a failed System Restore operation, and return the computer to the state it was in before the restoration attempt.
- Fixit.bat : This file loads in some cases when booting with the startup disk. It provides information on accessing Help content on the startup disk, as well as troubleshooting recommendations, depending on the current startup selection.
- Hibinv.exe : This file is loaded from the startup disk when you use the disk to start the computer, on the assumption that if the computer is being started with the startup disk, there is a problem trying to start the computer from the hard drive. It checks for the presence of a Windows Me Hibernation data file (Vmmhiber.w9x), and, if the file is present, writes zeros to the first part of the file to ensure it is not used to resume the computer. This provides an automated workaround for problems that occur when resuming from hibernation.
