the previous prob was his profile was corrupted so windows cannot load the profile, if he just create a new account and copy his old profile/datas to the new one, the prob should end at that point. only some programs may need to be reinstalled and it would be the only prob he had.

then the upgrade installation, those errors are about the new file versions and file installed mismatching and it should happens on upgrade install only. now the unfinished setup can cause more prob. all i can advise is to try the install again and when the warning appears keep pressing OK untill it can continue and completed. if he cannot do the setup you'll have to get all of his needed files off the HDD and do a reformat...

Why didnt you guys just do a repair install over the current XP using his home disc?

That or use system restore?

unregmp2.exe, Microsoft update utility for Windows Media Player. Updates information in user registry.
download and install wmp9

msdart.dll, It's realter to VB6 http://www.eddievagevuur.nl/windows_nt/msdart_error.htm

you do relise he should go to windows update get all the updates, he should also reinstall every single eice of software

worse case hook the hdd up in another system make a folder calld backup, darg everything in, put the hdd back in the trouble system boot for cd and reinstall windows but DO NOT CHOSE THE FORMAT option.... that way his files are there in that folder but then he's on a fresh install

if he can complete the upgrade installation, pls tell him, once he can get into windows, to check/compare the file version of the "MSDART.DLL" (Microsoft Data Access - OLE DB Runtime Routines) located in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder with the one in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE folder,
if the two are mismatched, rename the one in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder to MSDART_OLD.DLL, then copy one from DLLCACHE folder into its place. i'd say the system is now all set and he should be okay.
