No internet after Windows 2000 SP install
I recently installed 2000 on my main desktop system. Everything is running fine except that my Kx mixer crashes on shutdown and hangs the machine. A quick look at the FAQs tells me that this is a known problem and that SP1 or higher should be installed. I downloaded SP4 and installed it, fixing the problem with my Kx drivers but then found that I had lost access to the internet! SO I took off SP4 (to search for some answers) and found that a few people have had this problem so I installed SP3 but this caused the same problem!
Can you please point me in the right direction to solve this, I'm reasonably technically minded but have no experience with NT so am a bit stuck!
I connect to the net via ethernet and a cable modem on NTL.
Thanks,

try removing all the SPs, and set all "Services" back to the default,
Uninstall Virus scan, System works and Firewall sofewares,
after reboot, re-install the SP again and see.
Edit -- more info...

I had internet problem with SP4 on Win2k and ISDN; it got fixed only after reinstalled Windows (then I applied SP4, but somehow didn't have that problem - it seems to be somehow random, for me at least).

it could be programs installed or disabled services on the system can conflict with the last SP installations.
i was going to tell him that day if he came back and that does not fix the prob, and will suggest him to backup all needed files, and then do a clean install..
after win2K loaded, install SP4 then the others hot fixes...,
if its still a prob with connection after that i believe we should have seen some solutions out there or maybe i just didt see it. all i can see is ppls having the prob after SP4.
check this out for others who have had internet connection prob after SP4, no solution. Windows 2000 SP4 Anecdotal Problems - http://www.w2knews.com/anecdotes.htm

Just reinstall windows and then first apply the service pack, and then install your programs, installing programs first and service packs later causes problems, i have had that problem also with 2000 SP1 when it came out, since then i reinstall windows whenever i install a new service pack.

Thanks for all the help,
I followed panging's first post and it all worked fine with SP3 this time, maybe it was something in the services I'd tweaked and setting them back to the defualt values must have worked.
