if you dont have any prob nor dont need new features, i dont think you need it, unless you want to..

you can D/L the file and use it on your next reformat,
use one from the MSI site or check if you can also use one from Intel direct.

INF Update Utility, v5.1.1.1002 (12/12/2003) is the latest available..

you can D/L the Release Notes, here - ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-suppo...G/relnotes.htm
and find out what's added to this version in the "New Features".

and here's Readme for this Utility.

No prob.
i'd not think of this software as its made for improving performance..

The Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility installs
to the target system the Windows* INF files that outline to
the operating system how the Intel(R) chipset components will
be configured. This is needed for the proper functioning of
the following features:
- Core PCI and ISAPNP Services
- AGP Support
- IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support
- SATA Storage Support
- USB Support
- Identification of Intel(R) chipset components in
the Device Manager
all i can see in the release notes, for past 2-3 versions was about trying to fix some prob on USBs in winXP SP1 and win2k3)..,

Intel INFs

It's true Intel INFs have not been giving performance boosts or anything of the such. Usually, it is no harm to install the latest, but it is not essential.
