??? Very basic Win XP question

This is a very basic question, but one I have not seen addressed properly, or at least in a way I can get it to work.

How do you make Win XP home, remember your window size? For example, when I open my Control Panel, I constantly have to re-size the window in order to see all the contents. I would like Win XP to remember the size I made the window before, and open it to that size every da*n time I open it. Annoying having to re-size a friggin' window, everytime I open it.

Thanks.

Install Powertoys from MS's download center(updated July 2003). Go to the "Explorer" option and open it by clicking on the '+' sign. In there, you will see an option called 'Customizations'. By default it is set to 400 folder settings to be remembered. Set it to however many you want (I left it at default). That should do it.

Here's the link to the Powertoys download:

Powertoys XP

I had a big problem with this too, until I found this little gem.

Sounds good. One other question. Does this "Powertoys" eat up a lot of processor or system usage?

for me, only the problem with Powertoys is it need to startup and stay with windows when i only need just a lil help from it.

this problem seem to be very common for XP current version when the problem is actually caused by 3rd party programs. this's the reason why you hardly see it in newly XP installed (and also why the Powertoys need to be came out! at after every windows rels)

the folowing registry keys which keep all records of folder views and sizes will easily get bad entries (from program installed) and sometime its corrupted ..
so this one is also included to my XP's turn up sked at every month..

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

R-click on "BagMRU" and "Bags" and select "Delete", after reboot you'll have to re-set all folder view/size all over.. powertoys is better i know!

also you'll have to set "Save Setting" in explorer or you can use below reg file...
to ensure that your setting will now be saved.

-------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

---------------------------------------------

I've got a lot of things installed on my XP Home SP1 machine. I haven't actually come across a problem getting it to remember my Window size.

If Powertoys works, and you want to use it, I'd do so.

First, though, did you make the adjustment here:

Open My Computer by double clicking the Desktop Icon (if you put it there, or in the Start menu if not).

Go up to Tools in the options and click on it.

Select Folder Options at the bottom of the dropdown.

Click the View tab.

Scroll down and make sure there's a Checkmark in the Remember each folder's view settings.

(While there, you might want to make other changes, so do so.)

This is all I've had to do and I don't have Powertoys installed yet.

What always seems to work for me is when I have the window set to where I like it, I then go to Tools->Folder Options->View-> and click Apply To All Folders. This keeps everything where I like it.

that's the easiest, the prob can be pinned down and you can expect XP to be on it's good behavior with that... But i think many users like to see all folders in diff ways.
