Garbled Windows Startup Sound

Hey everyone,

After formatted my hard drive this morning and reinstalling Windows XP, my Windows startup sound is all garbled. It sounds fine until about halfway through the sound, and then it goes all crazy. While this problem isn't the biggest deal in the world, and doesn't seem to effect anything, it would be great if anybody knew a solution. Thanks.

Mr cairo will become famous soon enough

if the sound is ok after this its possibly windows starting somthing app at the same time as the sound is playing

for instance windows starts .. sound plays and as it does norton loads or trys to connect to the net for an update

can cause your sound to stutter

use msconfig to disable all the uneeded start up items see if that cures it

Better idea. Find the WAV file that is played as your startup sound. Open it in Sound Recorder, and click "Play". If it plays fine, then it probably is just the fact that you're starting too much stuff on startup. If it plays garbled there too, you just have a corrupt sound file. No big deal, just find a different sound to replace it.

What kind of Sound Card do you have installed? On-Board? If you have an Nvidia Graphics Card, you can Try disabling the Nvidia Driver Helper Service : Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Find "Nvidia Driver Helper Service" and double-click on it, set "Startup Type" to Disabled -> Reboot and Check for sound stuttering.

If that doesn't work open System Configuration Utility and Disable All Startup Items : Start -> Run -> Type in "MSCONFIG" -> Click OK -> Click on "Startup" Tab -> Click Disable All Button -> Click OK -> Click Restart -> System will then reboot and Check for sound stuttering. If the issue does not reoccur, then enable one startup item at a time to identify the cause of the stuttering. P.S. You'll need to reboot between disabling items.

Hope this helps,

-Josh

I get same with XP Pro. it always strats when my services exceed 15 or so. Sometimes it goes away. Network usually sparks it off. I have just learnt to live with it but I don't like it..................
