Windows 2000 Problem
Where I work there are a number of computers that still use Windows 2000. One of those computers stopped working today and gives the following message when trying to start it up.
"Window 2000 could not start because the following file is either missing or corrupt. C:\Winnt\System32\c_437.nts. You can attemp to repair this file by starting Windows 2000 setupusingh original setup floppy or cd-rom. Select r at the first screento start repair" Only problem is that there is no floopy disk or cd-rom. Can anything be done, or would it be best just to start from scratch wipe the hard drive and install XP instead?

Re: Windows 2000 Problem
If I'm getting this correct the computer has no actual drives other than hard drive? Or you don't have the 2000 media?

Sorry, didn't mean to be confusing. What I should have said was that there is no Windows 2000 installation disk either floppy disk or cd-rom.

Re: Windows 2000 Problem
If there's not much data loss a fresh XP install would be the better OS and probably the recommended action. To save the 2000 install you would need at least that one file, but there could be more corrupt files, so without either an install disk or a "repair" disk you're kinda stuck.
Couldn't you make a cd from one of the other 2000 machines with any needed files for repair......

I thought of that, but have no idea how to go about it. We have a mixture of computers at work, some Windows 2000 (older ones) and the newer ones are XP.

Re: Windows 2000 Problem
I thought that I'd come back and let you guys know that the problem has been solved. I found some info last nite while googling the problem and found that you could use a XP installation disk. The IT guy here at work tried that and the computer is back up and running.
