CD-ROMs, gone?

Well, I woke up this morning and much to my chagrin, my DVD+RW and my CD-RW drives were gone.

I checked in My Computer and they're not there, they do appear in Device Manager however...

I tried uninstalling them, rebooting and letting Windows detect them, I also tried manually reinstalling them, but no go.

Anyone help, please?

Can you boot off a CD to check to see if it's a hardware or software failure?

I just tried to boot off my WinXP CD -- it worked.

I'm gonna try a system restore to see if that will yield any results.

The system restore worked, I suspect the problem was caused by Power DVD 5.

Well, at least it's working again. Probably a corrupt CD driver

if it is an intel based board try uninstalling app accel & reinstall with newest version. i have seen this problem with older versions. if you are using current vers try the reinstall anyway.
well i guess i should have read the rest of the thread. anyway if you are using an intel chipset, & it happens again, try above.
