??? Windows XP Pro Erratically Refreshes Folders

In Windows XP, I have a 3,000+ file folder. At times (I could be scanning through the list, the folder could be minimized, it could be sitting unused, or whatever), the screen will suddenly go blank for a split second, "refresh" and the top file will highlight. If I was sorted by name, date, or whatever, it refreshes the same way... but always goes back to the top (as if I just opened the folder).

There is not a clear pattern to how often this happens.... sometimes it doesn't refresh for an hour, other times it happens in less than a minute. I can't see a tie-in to other activity on the computer (whether or not I'm doing [or completing] downloads, etc.).

I can't find any reference to other people having this problem. Any ideas?

System Specs

Do you remember a time when it didn't do that? You could run a repair install on XP and see if that fixes it. Alternatively, create a restore point and then restore back to an earlier time and see if it still does it. If I recall correctly, there is a setting in either tweakxp or some other xp tweaker that adjusts the refresh of windows folders. http://groups.google.com/groups?q=XP...-8&sa=N&tab=wg will tell you a lot about this problem and possibly how to fix it.
