DOS games on Windows XP..........

Hey guys

I've had this feeling of late,to want to play my old dos games again
well the problem is obviously the fact that windows XP doesn't have a DOS mode
but the strange thing is that games which don't require installs, such as the commander keen series works just fine(without compatibility mode)

but ones which require install like crusader:no regret, daggerfall, doesn't work
i.e i can't install it at all

only alternatives i have is to use dos-box,but that is horribly slow or to do dual boot with windows 98,which is against inconvenient

so can anyone please help me with this

You could try installing them under DOSBox and then run directly in windows.

Edit: Just tried No Regret under DOSBox and it's running fine, what CPU do you have?

P4 Prescott

i found gameplay to be extremely slow, when playing in dos box, that was for daggerfall though
but i'll give it another go now for no regret

classics never die

DOS Box has the ability to accelerate or slow down the game, only I can't remember what keys are used to do that, check the readme file.

Prescott schould be able to handle it, as Ivan said try to increase the CPU cycles. Also set the CPU core to Dynamic, screen output device to DirectDraw and scaler to Normal 2x, these settings are fastest on my machine. I use the DOG frontend for easy DOSBox configuration.
