??? Sony VAIO VGN-AR605E downgrade to XP - driver help!

I'm also trying to downgrade to Windows XP, but on a Sony VAIO VGN-AR605E. I know there are other people out there looking for drivers for this notebook, but have been unsuccessful as well. I do have XP loaded onto the computer and have found the following drivers:

Nvidia graphics driver
Marvell Yukon ethernet port driver

It's been enough to get me on the internet for now! I've been scouring the net and haven't found drivers that work with the VGN-AR605E. I've seen drivers for some of the hardware through Sony but they've been for other models and the executable checks which model computer you're running before it runs the install. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm a newbie to Driverheaven.net - but have been reading some of the posts on here and it seems as though there are some very knowledgeable people!

This is a list of the hardware I still need drivers for:

Communications:
HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (found a driver for this, but can't get it to connect to a wireless network)

Multimedia:
Realtek High Definition Audio
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC

Drives:
MemoryStick0 Device
SD1 Device

Controllers:
Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2850

Bus Adapters:
Texas Instruments PCI-8x12/7x12/6x12 Cardbus Controller
Intel ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller 2830, 2831, 2832, 2834, 2835, 2836, and 283A

Other Devices:
Sony VGP-VCC6 Visual Communication Camera
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller

Like I said - any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm looking to gather all of this stuff, then I'll place it somewhere so others have the ability to pull down the drivers they need for this notebook instead of going through the hassle I did!

****I've got all the drivers now I believe except for the following that I REALLY need help from you smart guys on:

Sony VGP-VCC6 Visual Communication Camera
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (found a driver for this, but can't get it to connect to a wireless network)

I have recently downgraded my vaio VGN AR61M to XP. I havent found all drivers yet.

For your problem with WiFi: I suppose you found the switch at the frontpanel of your notebook that activates your Wifi? The driver should work (or at least, it works perfectly for me)

The sigmatel high definition Audio codec.
I got my audio running, but i had to disable (and remove) the realtek drivers. I found on a forum a clue. I copy and past it here:

First Go to "Control Panel" then "Add & Remove" and remove
kb835221
If you have not installed kb835221 then don't worry
If you have, and you can't see it in "Add & Remove"
Click on Add/Remove Windows Components it should then show itself.
Second go to
LINK
Fixing the "Microsoft Bus Driver" error message when installing a RealTek sound card
And download the later Driver kb888111 for your version XP
Third Go to "Control Panel" then "SYSTEM" then "Hardware" then
"Device Manager" and uninstall Realtek
Next go to this LINK
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
And download Audio.rar
Install this,
With my AR51M I got my sound
This has been through a lot of help from others on this Forum
all I have done, is used a bit of advice from each

Furthermore, i didnt get the camera (vgp vcc6) running. You can use the vistadrivers (c:/windows/drivers). all installation packages for the hardware is located here.

I was wondering if you got the hardware control buttons working (like eject disk, volume etc). I managed to get the sony control driver running, but the eject butting still is not working..

And, what drivers did you use for the mass-storage device (like the memioryt stick and pcmci card bus)?

Thanks oltb - I'll have to try your SigmaTel fix.

I was not able to get the correct drivers for the S1, S2, or Eject buttons, or the function controls (brightness, etc). I do however have the volume and mute buttons working.

I used the following software package for the Texas Instruments memory stick device and pcmcia card bus:
Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller

I did manage to get the camera working great as well. If your SigmaTel fix works, then all I have left is to get the S1, S2 and Eject buttons (along with the function keys) working. Anyone out there have any ideas on drivers for those?

I was able to successfully get the S1, S2, Eject, Volume, Mute and Media Control buttons along with the brightness controls working following instructions on this forum.

Make sure to follow the directions in the second post (dated 01-30-2008, 07:36 AM).

The SigmaTel fix didn't work for me - I get the driver loaded and it won't start (still get the yellow caution flag in device manager). I'm going to try a clean install and see if that works (I've messed around with it so much who knows if it should have worked to begin with!).

I can get the Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC to work just fine. Right now, I'm having trouble with the Texas Instruments Card reader (Mass Storage Controller) and the Conexant modem (Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus). I saw you got the camera to work. Mine doesn't even show up without Vista. Please let me know what you did to get the camera to work.

Thanks so much!

How did you get the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC working? Did you follow the instructions in the previous post by oltp? Are you trying to install XP on a VGN-AR605E?

I'm not sure if I can help much with the camera if your system won't recognize it at all with XP - I installed XP Professional and it recognizes the camera as a USB Video Device. I'll try and post a link later on to the driver I used to update the USB Video Device driver so the camera worked. Note that I don't have a working copy of the Sony Camera Utility to capture pictures - I just tested it using windows and also by using it with Yahoo webcam services.

Once I've got the sound working I'm going to post instructions with links to all the drivers needed to get all hardware working on XP, along with the order of the drivers/apps you should install.

To get HD audio working you need the UAA driver from Microsoft.

Thanks temeteus82...I actually have that driver installed. I've got it now where the SigmaTel driver is installed as well and there aren't any caution flags in the device manager, but I'm still not getting any sound. I'll continue to plug away at it.

Sony VAIO VGN-AR605E XP Downgrade Instructions

After all the time I spent on this, I figured I'd make it easier for anyone else out there that got hosed by Sony.

Sony VAIO VGN-AR605E XP Downgrade Instructions

1) Slipstream SP2 into XP if you have an older XP disc by following these instructions.
You can also use nLite to do this if you need to add drivers as well.
If you need to get the SATA drivers you can google “Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller” to find them.

2) Install Windows from new boot disc
***At anytime, if asked to reboot you should do just that – REBOOT.

You can download the drivers listed below that I've gathered, from here: AR605E Drivers

3) Run Intel Chipset utility: infinst_autol.exe
4) Install the Texas Instruments Controllers: 7gsx07ww.exe
5) Install the NVidia video drivers
6) Install Marvell Ethernet driver
7) Install sound drivers by following SigmaTel Fix.txt in the Audio Driver folder
8) Install Modem Drivers
9) Update camera driver: go to device manager, and right-click on USB Imaging Device and update driver. Browse to camera folder and select R5U870FL.inf.
10) Update Windows completely, including installing optional updates for .Net 2.0 and 3.0.

Last but not least follow the HowTo.txt file in the “S1,S2,Eject & Function Keys” folder to finish off the downgrade by installing the S1,S2,Eject & function (brightness) keys.

I hope this helps many of you out there as I’ve spent a number of hours trying to find the drivers needed to get this notebook functional under XP. I also thank those that had put in the time to come up with fixes in the other forums.

Good luck!

**Note that although I was able to downgrade using these instructions, I'm not responsible for anyone else using these instructions!

I have a Vaio VGN-FE890E i have downgrade to XP Pro. I have gotten all the drivers to work except the Ssigmatel High Definition Audio and the Matrix Storage device. I have tried so many drivers on the audio i am blue in the face. I have also installed the matrix storage drivers from intel for the Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family. i did the chipset update and the separate matrix storage driver and still have the yellow exclamation on the matrix storage device.

I really need to have my audio up and running. If anyone has the drivers that work please email me and let me know where or send them.

I appreciate it

OK....I found the SigmaTel Driver. Sony has a few corporate laptops that ship with Vista but they support the downgrade to XP Pro. To find drivers you need to search these model numbers on the esupport.sony.com the laptops are:

VGN-SZ640E (or most 600 series)
VGN-TZ130N (or most 100 series)

You need to search through the drivers to find out what works for you. BUT the SigmaTel definatley worked for me on my VGN-FE890E

Still can't get the matrix storage....but onward and upward...one at a time!

I'm about to purchase an AR61M and would like to downgrade
to XP as soon as I have it...

I haven't found much info online in order to do this... I will use
an external sound device so HD-audio will be disabled in the BIOS
and I also don't care too much about buttons (altho brightness
would be nice to adjust)...

I would really appreciate some feedback from someone who did
this before so I can start without walking into one wall after the
other...

Could you please inform me which drivers to get? Also please
tell me the issues I might have during or after downgrading
based on your experience...

Thanks in advance!

Ok guyz, I've got a fully functional downgraded AR61M now...

Just a note, I created a ghost image of my drive before doing anything
so I will always be able to return to Vista if I would like that... I would
recommend it to anyone who's going to downgrade...

About the downgrade:

I've slipstreamed the Intel Matrix Storage Device Driver into XP and
formatted my drive, then I installed XP...

The drivers and methods for the AR605E will be the same, just a few
things, the soundcard only works if you disable Realtek in the Device
Manager, and to get the FN and eject buttons and Camera Capture
working, after following the 605E instructions, you need to install Vaio
Control Center and Camera Capture utility from the Sony Vaio AR21R
Utility package...

The WIFI will be fully functional after installing the driver for:
Intel PRO 4965AGN... You can get it from the Lenovo or Intel
sites...

Re: Sony VAIO VGN-AR605E downgrade to XP - driver help!

My Vaio VGN FZ-190E/B is functional except for the VCC4 Ricoh R5U870 Webcam. I have several webcam drivers that I've found by using this and many other forums, but none of them seem to work. I have a USB Video Device in Device Manager that uses usbvideo.inf.

My audio with the Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec works, but when I plug into the headphone jack, I still get sound out of my built-in speakers. I can live with that, but it's annoying.

If anyone really knows how to get drivers installed for the Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC4 (Ricoh R5U870) Motion Eye webcam for Windows XP, please let me know.

Thanks. :-D

OK, I followed these steps to the letter to D/G to XP on my VGN-AR520E and everything works except the webcam and the card reader on the front edge of the laptop. I also have an error in Device Mgr called Mass Storage Controller which I figured must be the card reader. I did try the complete process outlined in Message 9. Guess I have slightly different hardware, tho. I am SO appreciative of the help here and my machine is so fast now. I dropped in two, 500gb SATA drives and wow.
Anyone able to assist with these last 2 issues? I would be so happy.

Re: Sony VAIO VGN-AR605E downgrade to XP - driver help!

I installed this driver hoping to get my card reader in my AR520E to work in XP Pro and, instead, I get all errors removed from DM (good) but the card reader does not work yet and I now have a new item in file manager called USB Video device. Webcam?? When I click on it, it will not initialize. How to test webcam? Make card reader work? Plz assist. This site got me up and running and most things are working very well.
