Sad Plz Help Me Cant Recover My Old Folders After Using Recovery Tool

Hi all,

I'm in need of some desperate help!

I had a few problems with my computer recently, and the only choice I had was to do a PC System Recovery (Im using XP Home). This guarantees you won't lose any existing files. We had two account users at the time - My brothers (admin user) and mine.

After the Recovery, Windows XP started up as usual, but instead of coming up with the user accounts page, it started up straight away. The computer only recognised one user - the admin user - so all of my brothers files still remain on the computer. When I look in "Documents and Settings," there is a folder with my old account user name still there but I can't access it! It comes up with 'access denied'. I'm hoping all of my files are still in there somehow, I just don't know how to get to them.

How can I regain all of my files back again? I have really important uni work, pictures and files that I'd love to have back.

Would something in Command Prompt help me get into it somehow? I'm not quite sure! I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks guys

Welcome to DH.

First, have you tried booting into safe mode and seeing if you can access the account from there, or if you can access the files as the administrator?

Also, you may want to see if you can access it through the "old" login screen. To get there, under the control panel select "user accounts" -> change the way users logon -> then uncheck "use welcome screen"

Give these a shot and see what you get. We'll get this sorted out.

Sometimes I've seen where a recovery/repair will create a backup of "windows.old" or some other such directory. See if there's anything of this nature on the system.

Good luck!

it's not that, it's NTFS permissions, just take ownership of the folders & apply to child objects
