Helps to read everything first.
I did not have ubuntu installed. I am now running from the disk. I have a whole new desktop and am using the browser. I am still not able to get around. It is still working the same as before.
I changed my Cat5 cable too. Next maybe a different modem?

What modem are you using? USB, NIC?
As it stands, (yes, it does help to read everything. ) it seems you're having problems only with certain sites and logins? Correct?
What is the size of your browser cache? (50-250 MB is recommended.)
Do you have it set to refresh the page on each visit? (I do.)
If you haven't already done so, you might want to try a free online virus scan. McAfee's is located here:
McAfee – Computer Anti-Virus Software and Internet Security For Your PC
This is in case the installed virus program you have has been thwarted somehow.
Good luck!
Do you have any features disabled? (You might try disabling certain ones: Popups, ADs, etc. temporarily at least. And, turn off the Phishing feature as well.)

The fact that you are having the same problems when running a boot disk of Linux says to me that its either a hardware or IP problem. If your IP says its not them, it might be your hardware. Try out a different router/NIC/Modem, whatever, and see if you can diagnose it. Also check your BIOS settings and make sure any hardware AV or firewalls are diabled. If you get the same results, get your provider on the phone, tell them all the steps you took, and have them send a guy over.
Tough problems man, I hope we can get things fixed for you.

The modem is at&t that that my provider sold me at hook-up. It is only 6 mos. old. It is a wireles, modem and router all in one.
Not sure how to set browser cache. Will try to find it and check.
I am sure it is set to refresh.
I will try the virus scan and report back
AS always, Thanks

OK, and, be sure to check out that link to MS Knowledge base I posted above.
Browser cache is easy to adjust: In IE7, for example, with IE7 open, click on the Tools, Internet Options, then, at Browser History, click on Settings.
So, you're with AT&T, right? Which was previously BellSouth, correct?
If so, several of my family members have recently left this ISP for Comcast due to connection problems. Long time history of connection problems. So, even though they say it's not 'them', it mostly likely IS. I can run down about 4 or 5 people in our area that have recently left BellSouth/AT&T over this issue.
Cheers!

Thanks dire I checked it out. I also ran the free mcafee scan for viruses, found nothing.
I ended up calling at@t again and after an hour and 15 minutes the tech guy realized there is a reset on my modem. You have to insert a wire in a little hole in the back. The modem reset and we set it back up. Now everything seems to be working fine. I have been all over on the net just screwing around and have no issues. I can also log-in to my pay pal(finally).
I really appreciate everyones help and support and hope I can return the favor to someone else when they need help. Every once in a while there is a question that even I know how to fix from a newbe. If anything, I learned a few more things too.
We'll see how it goes from here.
Thanks

I forgot, I also looked at my browser cache. It is at 915?? Should I leave it, or set it to something different? Thanks

It's actually recommended to have it set somewhere between 50-250 MB. That's to keep it from becoming too bloated which would cause additional slowdowns.
Glad to know you got things sorted out...finally!
Don't you wish all problems were as easy as doing a Reset?
