Safe Mode keeps rebooting on me :(

Hi, I wanted to install new videocard drivers so to do a complete uninstall I was heading for safe mode. But my system just keeps rebooting when I attempt to get into safe mode.

It starts fine, but when the screen pops up where you can select an account (admin/user) it immediately dissapears again so I can't select an account. It then stops for like 10 seconds showing the black screen with the build info around the edges before the computer resets itself...

I've done extensive viral and trojan scanning with AVG and several online scanners but to no avail. Anyone recognize this symptom? Really stumped on what to do. Right now it's not that urgent me getting into safe mode but I'd hate it when I would actually really need it and it's not available.

Also, when installing video drivers now I have a problem where the at the end when the screen goes black a second time it doesn't come back on again and I have to reboot. After the reboot it does look like the drivers are installed fine though... Not sure if this is related in any kind though...

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Btw, I'm running windows XP pro

System Specs

Just curious but after installing the graphics drivers and you get the black screen does it have a flashing cursor in the top left corner? If so I used to get that quite a lot. It never really caused an issue it was more just an oddity that I got used to.

However combined with the rebooting it's sounding like either hardware (make sure everythings seated correctly) or a corrupt driver. Try re-installing your chipset drivers first, then your graphics drivers then your soundcard drivers. If that fails use MS Config and uncheck the items on load at startup, one by one re-introduce them until you find the item thats causing the re-boots.

Goodluck and let us know how it goes.

It would help immensely if you'd give us the lowdown on your system specs. We have no idea what kind of PC you're even using nor even the video card.

Oh sorry, forgot to mention it. I'm running a e6600 at 3,2 ghz (already tried stock settings) and a leadtek 7950gx2 at stock speeds. I have 2 gigs of Geil RAM and a asus p5b deluxe mobo. Just to clarify; I can normally boot into windows, it's just the safe mode that keeps rebooting on me.

Oh, and I seem to have solved the problem with installing the drivers. However, this does not seem related to the safe mode problem as that is still there.
