I have two HDDs in my pc:

250GB 7200rpm 16mb cache SATA
160GB 7200rpm 8mb cache SATA

I plan on using the 250GB as my main disc drive, with all my OS installs and primary storage

The 160GB is primarily for backup/ extra storage.

I am considering placing my windows pagefile (and linux swap partition) on the 160GB disc (as the first partitions). Would I see noticeable performance gains by doing this, or would they be negligible?

depending on the task being run, yes you should see a rather noticeable performance boost (specially when loading things)
