I love those type of finds, where everything is broken down and explained in detail. As for disabling services with Windows XP, I believe its better to use the services.msc command. Heres a great site I used for referance when I disabled unused services http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm ... its probably old news, but I found it really useful... good luck!

Startup apps
I found one of the great little apps called "Startup.exe".
Tiny little app that can be dragged on to the desktop that includes all of the tabed areas from the registry where the apps starting up are stored.
One of those great little apps.
Hope this helps.

Startup Control Panel 2.8
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. It's simple to use and, like all my programs, is very small and won't burden your system. A valuable tool for system administrators!
Startup Control Panel is compatible with all modern versions of Windows, including Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP.
note-- D/L the Standalone EXE Version (34kb), just unzip and use it, no installation.

Well seems as how this thread got bumped anyway, I often use http://www.lafn.org/webconnect/mento...p/PENINDEX.HTM when I am trying to find out what the startup programs are in my clients PC's.

That's a good list...might come in handy in the future...but for now I'll stick to just regular anti-virus check-ups for my system...
