well system spec
============
WinXp64
Amd Athlon 4400 dual core
a8r32 mvp deluxe asus mobo
ati 1900xt crossfire radeon 512mb
1GB pc3200 generic DDR ram
80gb Seagate barracuda 7200rpm ata-100

==============

ok games run amazing- oblivion fear (hehe not with FULL AA but its cool!)...but windows xp64 is lagging..i mean i see teh HOURGLASS!!!

my guess is that the ram is defintely dragging me down..thank god 2 days im buying new ram
OCZ 2Gb PC3700 DDR EB Dual Channel Platinum XTC Editiion

im either going for the 4000 or 3700, need it for overclocking anyways- gotta have the leg room!

but i will look for a dual core optimizer for winxp64- i mean its not 486 slow...but it just doesnt seem to be living up to its name- aside for the games which is more important

-thanks - game on-

Thats weird...Win64 runs super smooth with the gear in my sig, maybe your ram has gone south. A reinstall of win64 after you've get the new ram might be a good idea..

Little information:

Frankly windows xp 32bit blows in comparison to x64.

I'm running a Windows x64 Slipstreamed SP1 version of windows.

apon completeing a fresh install of windows x64, i install the AMD CPU Driver from AMD site, and proceed with installing drivers for all the devices.

Making sure everything is updated (i don't install .net 1.x at all, just strickly 2.0) directx and other windows software/codecs and the sorts.

MAKE SURE YOU DISABLE Cool n Quiet in the bios, that'll trash any system's performance 90% of the time.

You seem to have a comparible system to mind however.

Could you give a general listing of what software you normally have installed? It might be some weird 32 bit program running in the back ground /w a memory leak.

Windows x64 won't let you install or run any 32bit driver. Hell even run dll as a excuteable doesn't work majority of the time. Even some games that load a driver (32bit) won't load it at all.

Most of all companies provide an option to download and install a x64 version of the driver. You have to choose x64 however. Alot of companies are now providing a unified set of drivers, both x64/x32 in one driver but will auto detect what your running and install the nessary drivers.

Rule of thumb, never install drivers that came on the disk in which you got your product (enless it's creative most of the time).

Always download the latest reference drivers,

Allways install the most critical drivers first before the least critical. (SATA/RAID~>CPU~>Chipset~>Video~>Audio~>Printer/Scanner/DigitalCamera/etc.)

ok mabye the problem is this...i had winxp 32bit..when i installed 64bit i did NOT do a full format. all i did was select it to install on my computer without reformatting. it overwrote the MY DOCUMENTS folder. i did NOT get an amd driver for my chip. i bet since i did not do a proper fresh reformat/install...alot of *holy halflife!* got mixed up.

plus my ram is garbage..and the cool and quite thing is disabled. knew about it hehe
so my decision has been made. i must do a full reformat, and then properly get windows back on.

OH are there 64bit drivers for my motherboard? crap cuase the drivers i used from disk..ugh

anyways thanks for the input everyone- all of them read- considered and in 3 minutes enforced/1

game on-

ps- Quake 4 takes FOREVER TO LOAD!! i did get the new patch which supports dual core..but i think my ram is tooooooo crap for it. my friend has same rig as me (xept dual core) and same ram 1gb pc3200 (generic) it takes long for him too. sheesh!

the x64 drivers for this board rock solid slick fast and to the point, excellent.

Make sure you go to www.realtek.com.tw/ and do a quick search for ALC882 in the top right corner, then browse to the download section through the search.

Download the latest Excuteable (i usually have the fastest download rate from the 2nd server)

These are reference drivers for you onboard audio, they are the latest and greatest. (both x64/32bit included in one package for these)

Next

Go to http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._13118,00.html

download the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16 driver

Next

Go to www.ati.com and go through the driver download search, under windows XP x64 Proffesional, download the latest 3.7 catalyst full package for windows x64

next

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx and download the latest Redistrutable DirectX Package (this will contain ALL files needed for ALL version of windows including x64)

To make it easier, skip the link above and go directly here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

omfg, they just released an August version rotfl... lucky me and you for me for looking for it rotfl.. irony.

ok, next is .net 2.0 (DON'T INSTALL .net 1.x ! )

there is a x86 (32bit) version and a seperate x64 (64bit) version,

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

this is the x64 you need.

Frankly that should be all enless you need ULi or Silicon Sata Drivers, in which you can search for them, but generally not a requirement if you not running Raid Mode

LASTLY, Don't install anything off the CD, the only thing you need to do is after installing x64, pop the CD into the drive, let it load, when the main window pops up, wait 5 seconds then remove the CD, This will install a x64 driver for the motherboard, you won't see a thing happen, but it's for a device that windows orginally finds as unknown.

Also, Remember the install order

Windows Updates/Software/DirectX/.Net~>CPU Driver~>Chipset Drivers (which are nonexcistant for your board so ignore)~>Video Drivers~>Sound Drivers~>Other software drivers/devices/programs

no i dont Judas..but - when i try to use any p2p i cannot downlaod nothing really...mabye..2-3kps but with win32bit and my old ethernet anywhere from 30-200 and some change. now i know it may be a 64bit issue- but there is this program i just installed called LVLLORD and it changes the allowed 10ip's (im not an expert on this matter) half opens to 50 halfopens. so ill see what this does. but yeah i dont need a 3rd ethernet. i would rather use the two i have now ofcourse.

thanks again everyone. really appreciate the big help! i am a noob in your shadows.

Do y'all really think his ram is the problem? It doesn't seem that should be the case to me. He's got a gig, and PC3200, should be ok shouldn't it? Might see a tiny difference if the latencies are high, but as long as it's in the right slots on the board for dual channel operation (two 512Mb sticks) it shouldn't be giving him the fits he's experiencing I would think...

games..patches...order of installation? its nuts!!

yeah 3200 is fine. but there is big difference with generic and actual brand named memory. my buddy has same rig as i do- but his ram is OCZ plus 2gb of it. win xp runs smooth as ice and is twice as cool!

it makes a difference in gaming too! memory is sometimes one part of the upgrade that is overlooked but it defintely helps! 2gb of ram with dual bandwidth is very nice and the tw command doesnt matter considering the crazy amount of ram plus the timings..i just dont care !!!

ugh, Judas, a question (or anyone who knows hehe)- you know the directx - should i get direct x 9c FIRST AND THEN install the ones you mentioned? im going to cause oblivion looks wierd..not as good looking when i had 6.6 cat and directx 9c...hmm i did download the ati drivers you mentioned asw well- the ones for winxp - i mean the game runs nice just doesnt look the same. so I need to remedy THIS! i gots to get gaming!

thanks folks game on

the latest redistrutable is the latest and all you need.. you do not need to update in increments.

if if the 6.6 drivers are best for you.. stick with them.

theres a chance that you had perhaps fsaa/hdr enabled a tthe same time using the chuck patch?

ahhh man why didnt i think of that. the chuck patch! i gotta get it lol. but the problem is..hopefully they have it for 6.7..i know its only 6.6 and yeah that was the problem! i had hdr and aa on..ugh..the game looked garbled. but now its all good.

gonna check if chuck is good to go with 6.7 but i doubt it. also it doesnt matter aa is not a big deal with me for now- hdr is - only when i grab the 2nd 1900 i will care more 8p anyways game on!
