EEK! HELP!! with popup/trogan/virus what eva!?

hi... i need ur help BADLY..

i'm running windows 2000 with SP4. i use to access the tinternet thru my network from another computer running Win ME with a shared dail up modem.

All was working fine, till one day i thought "i know, i'll put the modem in my win2000 computerseeing as i use it more than the other one" .

So thats what i did. And now, every time i conect to the internet i keep getting really iritating pop ups with out even having the browser open. They tell me i need to click 'OK' and then type in the URL they give me in order to 'FIX' crittical errors with my PC/messanger(not even installed)/ & my registry..

YA RITE, LIKE I'M THAT STUPID!!! They do point out interestingly that the 'flaws' only affect 'WIN2000, WIN NT, WIN2003, WIN XP, etc etc.. ' all except for 'WIN ME'. (probaly the reason i never had this problem when the modem was in my WIN ME pc)

its obvios that its 'THEM' who are the problem 'NOT' the Solution.

I know they are using scare tactics and tecno babble to trick people in to going to these sites. If it were real they would direct you to a 'WINDOWS or MICROSOFT' website for the 'PATCH'.

So How do i get rid of these horrid little gremlins from my computer?

My sister instaled WIN 2000 to her PC and almost imedietly had the same problem, but was a little nieve and now has serious problems. HELP!!!!

ya messenger service, same on XP

& it's a popup dialogue box, not just any old popup (which usually is associated with a browser window)
