log file in windows

is there such a thing? i would like to know if windows keeps a log file of when the system is shut down, powered up, programs installed, how long the computer is turned on, etc.?

well, i guess of all those, the most important of those is when it was turned on,be how long the computer has been turned on, and when it was turned off.

i know that you can check the network connections properties, but that only tells you how long the computer has been on, but i need more detail than that because if the machine has been on for like 5hrs. and then restarted later on, it'll only show like 10min. or however long it's been on since the restart.

I usually use the event viewer to see restarts and that sort of thing. THough I guess it won't show shutdowns unless there was some sort of problem. Sounds like a cool idea if anyone knows of one I may try it out.

ya eventviewer is 1 way for specific things...

how about those progs & irc scripts that have 'uptime' displayed... they must be getting the info from somewhere...

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...s+logger&meta= maybe some 3rd party software
