if a system reboot makes the problem go away then i'd not worry about that,
but if it occurs again try creating any files or a new folder then move this file to the bin when it's closed and then R-cleck on its icon and select empty it. this may help restore proper function of the recycle bin. if not, and system reboot won't help either, try running error-checking on all drives/partitions.
anyway, scan your computer for virus and virus-like again. and make sure the Windows is updated.
note-- before running the drives/partitions error-checking backup your important files.

Don't worry overly much about whether a specific KB article exists for your version of Windows.
Standard practice is to grab whatever's available and apply the principles.
