48 - bit LBA support questions

I have found an option in Wintools.net to enable 48-bit LBA support for Large drives.

The question is what this option do when enabled. ?

Is it dangerous for the file system to enable this option. ?

The S-ATA is my startup disk.
Also my system contains a P-ATA 80 GB

Greatfull thanks for replying and support.

seems that the tool offers an option to enable the registry value "EnableBigLba" in Windows XP/2K.

read this below article...
How to enable 48-bit Logical Block Addressing support for ATAPI disk drives in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;303013

when you are using a 48-bit LBA compatible BIOS, and using Windows XP at SP1 and up level you most likely do Not need to enable the registry value...
