Windows 2003 drivers and usage

I've gotten my hands on a Windows 2003 Server through MSDNAA program and I'm thinking about giving it a try. What do I need to know? There are three things concerning me so far:
- the drivers: Are Win2k/XP drivers compatible with Win2k3?
- functioning: What do I need to do to make it work as a workstation (or simply a regular PC)? I read in a thread that Neon wrote a guide on turning a Win2k3 into a workstation, so I suppose some steps are required, but the page linked opens as blank.
- Is there a reason to install it? Does it have any distinctive features that separate it from
Win2k?
