Remote Shutdown

When I use shutdown.exe from "Windows 2000 Resource Kit", Windows shuts down, but the PC doesn't get turned off (I get "It's now safe to shut down PC" or similar message). When I shut it down locally (Start/Shutdown), the power goes down. Both PCs, the one I'm trying to shut down and the one I'm attempting the shutdown from, are running Windows 2000 Professional with SP4.

Try using the other system shutdown utility "tsshutdn.exe"

tsshutdn.exe /? for more info and syntax.

command-line example:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tsshutdn.exe 15 /DELAY:15 /POWERDOWN,
or C:\WINDOWS\system32\tsshutdn.exe 30 /DELAY:30 /SERVER:enter here computername /POWERDOWN

Thanks for the reply.
tsshutdn.exe doesn't come on Win2k CD, but on Win2k Resource Kit CD, which I don't have. Also, I was unable to find a download.

i think the tsshutdn.exe is also include in Windows 2000 as a native command-line tool.

------------------

i just checked the Windows 2000 Pro SP4 image and i don't see the command-line tool there either,
will have to check some more and see if you can still get this tool? and will let you know later.

if you also have a copy of Windows 2000 Server or XP Pro you may want to try copying the file over to your %SystemRoot%\System32 and try running the command-line. otherwise i'm out of ideas atm.

Search gave no results, but I got it from a friend. Apparently, it only came with XP or server versions of 2000.
Now, this is probably going to be a noobish question, but, how do I start a terminal server? Because it has to be started on the machine I want to shutdown if I am to use tsshutdn.exe.

Or maybe it would be simpler to see why my PC doesn't loose power when I use shutdown.exe, as I only want to be able tu turn the PC on and of so I can use it's modem without going through my parents' room.
