please help as i have just lost 120gb of info!!!!!
the hard drive was unstable but i was trying to fix it.
i used abexo defragmenter lite which was a scandisk and defragmenter and after it finished
theres nothing on the hard drive and when i try to access it it comes up saying this hard drive is not formatted do u want to format now?
i need some of that info is there a good full version program that will hopefully bring it all back for me?

you should "not" allow the defrag tool to run the chkdsk you should have paused at the point where you think the hard drive was unstable.
if there is no evidence that the drive is dying, a all sectors 1:1 image should have been made of the drive and then something like Easy Recovery Pro should have been used on the drive. then if that didn't get back all of what was missing, the sector image could have been restored and other recovery software tried on the drive.
if the drive is dying, a forensic clone should have been done on the drive while it isnt dead and recovery attempted on the clone.
now, i think it's a bit to late you will have to find a good recovery program that can scan the drive looking for files, and you will probably get only the files that are not fragmented at all.
try GetDataBack Data Recovery Software - http://www.runtime.org/
i've never actually used this software myself. good luck.

GetDataBack is one of the best in my opinion, saved my mp3 collection once when a 120Gb drive died when I swapped my graphics card (no I don't understand it either!!!)

i really don't know if the file scan operation will pick up where it left off or it'll have to start over again,
but if you stop running this program and start over with another program i'm sure it'll take a long time to finish also.
only thing i can suggest which is not much will be: to keep on using the same program for now and look around on the internet to see if you can find more info about these file recovery programs, each program works differently so maybe you can find some info that tells you the name of a program that can get your files faster than the others. the most important now is make sure you protect the subject drive, don't use it until you get your files back.
read this completely...

How do I recover hard disks involving Scandisk and Chkdsk?
http://www.ptdd.com/datarecovery/rec...hkdsk-disk.htm
15-day trial of Data Security Wizard ( http://www.easeus.com/download.htm )
"You would require the full version of Data Recovery Wizard to recover the data from inaccessible drive. The demo version gives you a much fairer idea about chances of data recovery from your hard disk before deciding upon the purchase."
i wish it's a full functional trial version, but it isn't.
this one gets many good reviews... but (same as above) the demo versions won't allow you to recover the data from inaccessible drive.

Is your HDD 120GB (as you posted) or 160GB? Because 390,000,000x4k=160GB, I don't see how you can have 3k sectors.

na well the hard drive thats stuffed is a 200gb but still has space free.
i stopped the other program coz after 55 hours it was about 5/8 of the ways through!!!
and i just did getdata back and well its doing it under an hour.
when it finishes does the recovered files have different names or r they back to normal like i dont have to go through my mp3s and play them all to figure out wot they r?

seems they uses a script to open sub pages in its own window, use all avaiable screen space and also an always on top script.
try using "open in new tab" of one of web browser that have a tab-style interface.
also, about the getdataback you might also want to use an instant messaging with Al_Vampyre since he knows about this program,
you and him might be on this site in different time frames, and an instant messaging should help. check with him to see if hes okay?
